There was a sharp pain in her nose, and the wolf yelped, pulled her head back. How dare it? Her paw came up, rubbing at her smarting nose, before she lunged forward, sinking her teeth into nothing more than fur.

Oh, oh, something was happening. Something was pulling at her fur, but she didn't feel much else. It was a blissful reprieve from the agony.

Without conscious thought, her nerves spasmed, and she twitched, convulsing on the ground with a few, raspy squeaky sounds.

Okay, this was getting old. It was just a freaking rat, it shouldn't be hard to pull out its Gem! It was as though it were stuck there, something incredibly sticky holding it in place.

With a frustrated growl, she tore into the Quoll, revealing its ribs, but failing to pull out its Gem.

She couldn't move.

The Quoll laid still, head spinning from blood loss. Why wouldn't it just kill her? Why wouldn't it put her out of her misery? What had she done to deserve this!

The rat seemed to have stopped fighting, laying limply in place. She took advantage to shove her muzzle into the gaping hole in its torso, pulling out a mouthful of innards before finally striking the Gem. None too carefully, she yanked it free, and stepped back, looking at it. Then, looking back at the Quoll, she decided not to waste it, and began to feast.
