As a maiden she tiptoes shy with her light
She is modest and pure as she graces the night

It was done. It was finally done.

Thothaga stepped back to admire the masterwork of silk she had woven through the trees. It formed a dark burrow made out of bent branches and soft, white sheets of spider webbing. It was her own little cave, her lair high in the trees were dangers would be hard pressed to reach her. There was still so much the cave Thothaga wanted to explore, but she needed a place to stash her treasures and rest.

Below her, a large wall of web hung down like a curtain. It stretched in between trees and ensnared bushes and leaves. Unlike her burrow, this silk was harder to see despite its size and shimmered in the light. This web she spun to hunt. Thothaga like it when prey can to her. It was less work that way, and this web, she predicted, was hopefully strong enough to catch a fat, juicy cave deer.

Thothaga backed into her burrow and settled in. She plucked, her shining chrysalis shard from her gem, a gift from Oliver on her first day of life, and hung it on the arching ceiling. Muffled by silk, its soft glow dimly shone through her burrow, silluetting her huddled form. Slowly, Thothaga began to drift off into slumber, not bothering to watch the trap. If the web caught anything, any movement would tell her.

"Listen to me."

Goodness gracious, this marsh was disgusting. All sloppy mud and buzzing insects. At least it was watery, which made it easier for her to move. She'd had to go through a waterless tunnel to get here from Polaris, which Pelt supposed helped her practice moving on land, but it got tiring after a while. For a while, she simply moved beneath the murky water, occasionally coming up for breath.

It was enough to keep her busy for a while, but Pelt tired of that too eventually. Were there any Greaters here? It was so boring. So quiet. She surfaced near a tree, looking around. Most Greater Gembounds were landbound, she'd find them near the trees if any existed here. "HeLLO!" she yelled, moving through the tall trunks. "Is there ANYONE- MFFF!! PFFMMMMM!!!!" She hadn't been paying enough attention to where she was going, it seemed, because she'd run nose-first into a gigantic web. Scowling furiously, Pelt shook her head violently, trying to untangle herself, and dove beneath the water. Maybe that would stretch it until it broke. Whose great idea was it to put a web here, anyway?! If Pelt had seen it happen to anyone else, she would have found it terrifically funny. But it had stuck to HER, so it was unacceptable!

as a maiden she tiptoes shy with her light...

Thothaga dreamt of the Spire. Its blue light was a bright beacon in the darkness, fierce and chaotic, but she did not shy away, instead, she was drawn to it, like a moth to a flame, and she was made entirely of crystal. Within her, she held twelve different flavors of magick, and an unyielding desire to deliver them unto the Spire, and the Spire, it beckoned. She reached out towards it, long to touch it smooth, crystalline sides but before she laid a hair, the Spire collapsed into a single, white mushroom, which rotted away to reveal a small, red stone that glowed as brightly as the crystal stars in Orion.

Suddenly Thothaga was jolted awake by the violent tugging on her webs. Disoriented from drowsiness, she clumbliessly crawled out of her silken burrow. Some excitement had replaced the sleep in her body by the time she reached her traps, the memories of her dream faded to the back of her mind. The prey she had snared was either fat and juicy, or very desperate to be making her silk shake this much. She crawled through her canopy and followed the tugging to the swamp floor. A thing that walks, deer? Like saliva, beads of venom began to hungrily swell a her fangs. However, as she peered down below, Thothaga was surprised to see a flopping furry, fish-like tail. The creature seemed to have dried diving into the swamp's water to escaped their ensnarement, but her web wouldn't be easily discarded being stretched like that. Carefully, she began to try and pull her catch up. It was very heavy.

"Thothaga speaking."
Thothaga thinking.

@Pelt
The web stretched and stretched, but it would not break which was ACTUALLY REALLY ANNOYING. Couldn't a Gembound mind their own business around here without getting tangled up in a stupid web? Scowling furiously, Pelt thrashed her head with all her might and beat her tail and slapped at her head with her flippers. There was a tugging sensation, as if something was trying to drag her upward - NO! She would NOT allow this to happen! She was a predator, she was terrifying, she had teeth and she was strong and nobody would catch her like this!

She resisted violently, whipping this way and that way until she thought she was facing away from the direction of the web, then dove and swam forward at the same time. Progress was slow and the web did not seem like it would be giving up anytime soon, but she refused to cease her efforts. Sooner or later this thing had to break.
