In the heart of a slumber giant there rested an stone. It's surface was laced with veins that gave off a gentle and inviting light when left in darkness. It was oblong but jagged, it's surface shuddering from time to time as the creature with in stirred. A chrysallis disguised as nothing but a simple rock. Perhaps this was a prelude to appearance of what rested in it's hollow belly.

Time had allowed the creature inside to grow. Now it found itself curled tighter than any time before, the confines of its life sustaining prison were less appealing. It stretched it's legs and wings. The willemite around the creature heaved once... twice... three times before a crack spit it's jagged surface with a hiss. Another heave and it cracked along its base. One more and the hollow stone that this creature once called home fell away.

A pink, furless gembound was left in the dust. It's front legs, avian and stiff, stretched out in front of it. It's head rested between them with mottled brown wings covering its back. It appeared to still be asleep, almost lifeless. That is, until it's skin began to change. It started slowly, and then all at once it's skin went from a fleshy pink to a mottled brown with slightly elevated portions to mimic the stone that was once it's home. It's long, prehensile tail curled around one of the rib bones from an ancient creature and turned a chalky white to match.

To one just passing by, it would seem as though nothing was there. Completely camouflaged, the small creature opened its eyes. She was awake. Her sides heaved a great breath as her blue eyes scanned the area around her.

Where am I? The question rested tentatively on the top of her head. She remained completely still, her blue eyes wide and scanning.

Who am I? Ah, that question was more pressing. Surely she was here for a reason. Surely she was something, someone.

Her nostrils flared with discomfort. Suddenly, this little creature was all too aware that they seemed to be alone. A small cry tried to escape her narrow maw, but only a whisper of air came out. She had no tongue, and while this did not bother her presently, she felt it might later. For now, she remained camouflaged among the ferns and mosses in the heart of a slumbering giant.
