ORIGIN - Birds Don't Make Those Sounds

Heart-Song was in Orion, practicing their magic.

It hadn't started out that way at first; in fact, they had initially flown there so they could be excited over their new name and family, and enjoy the stars up above.

But one thing had lead to another, and now, they were there, perched on one of the ruins, trying to imitate Aegir's voice.

Carefully, shakily, a growl echoed from their mouth. Heart-Song jumped, eyes wide as the sound echoed through the starlit cave. That wasn't exactly what they meant to do- hopefully they hadn't scared anyone.

After the encounter with the strange mutant - who had, at some point, just up and left; Zevruu hadn't bothered to follow him - he hadn't seen many others. Recently, the lights had started to dim and sometimes even went out. It was annoying, slightly, though he was generally able to see whenever it did go out, thanks to the glow that seemed to follow him after having used the Glow spell numerous times.

He had started making his usual rounds around Orion, observing all that was nearby, when he heard a sound. A growl. Where had that come from? The sound echoed around the cave, and he stiffened. It was hard to pinpoint where, but...

There. Perched on a ruin was a bird. That made him frown. Had the bird made that sound? That wasn't natural. But he was positive it had come from here. He approached slowly, observing them. His eyes narrowed slightly. "Hello?"

They looked up, seeing a kitty approach. A spark of curiosity lit- they knew what a cat was, sure, but they had never really interacted with one before now. And this one was glowing, too! Hopefully he wasn't mad at them because they scared him.

"Hiya!" they greeted, not letting their nerves show. "Did I scare you with that? I'm sorry if I did, I'm just trying to practice my magic."

Heart-Song focused, attempting to call forth their mimicry again. The stone in their neck began to glow with a faint blue light, a great contrast to the dimmer light of Orion, and the cat's glow itself.

When next they opened their mouth to speak, the cat's voice exited their mouth instead of their own. "See?" they said, privately proud of being able to mimic him first try. "I can do other sounds, too, if you wanna hear!"

Zevruu grunted at their words. Scared him? Maybe they would have, if he was younger. But time had matured him, changed him from the anxious and scared cat to...well, whatever he was now. It seemed as though, now, it would take a lot to scare him. He flicked his tail.

"You didn't scare me. I just wanted to know what that sound was and where it had come from." He was about to speak more when he heard his own voice coming from this bird. He blinked in shock for a moment before collecting himself, his eyes narrowing once more. "Not bad," he murmured. He couldn't recall ever having seen magic like this. Still, after cycles upon cycles of living, there was still much he had never encountered. It was a little infuriating, to say the least. Surely he'd seen everything the caves had to offer by now?

"That - that won't be necessary." It was interesting, certainly, but he didn't particularly want to hear any more of it.
