Reign
He who is to be a good ruler
must have first been ruled

Reign was out to test his Magic again.

He could have practiced in Orion, he supposed. However, the Kingdom had their homes there, and would not be terribly pleased to be interrupted with sudden thunderclaps, or to be hit by errant spells. So he made his way to Polaris, where the Magick in the air gave him better control, seemed to amplify his spells.

As he walked into the Cave, he gave into the small bit of cub left in him, and reached for his Magick, announcing his entrance with a booming thunderclap.

He shook himself off as he trotted through Polaris, the Magick in the air giving him a boost of energy. This was the most awake he had felt in ages, energy flowing through his veins. He could feel his muscles moving beneath his flesh, was hyper aware of every shift of his bones. The air was crisp in his lungs and, as he searched for a place to test his more dangerous spells, he allowed himself a bit of amusement, fur gleaming with electricity.

His Sin was pride, after all, so he was allowed to be a bit vain.

It didn't take long for his long-legged, effortless stride to bring Reign to a clearing that seemed good for him to practice his Magic in. The ground was covered in plush grass, and there were a handful of rocks of varying sizes that would serve for good target practice. It was a useful place, and he made a mental note of it to return to next time he came to Polaris.

Shaking himself off, he thought of how many Lessers might be nearby, and so reached for his Magic, intending on warning them off. However, his Magic refused to respond.

Reign frowned, furrowing his eyebrows.

He didn't want to start practicing until the area was clear of Lesser Gembounds, for fear of harming them. In good conscience, he couldn't allow them to get hurt by a stray spell. It went against his morals--he was willing to hurt, and kill, Lessers for food, but he refused to harm them for no reason.

So he tried again, standing just a bit straighter as his crown gleamed, a loud crack of thunder sending any Lesser Gembounds scrambling away from the epicenter of the sound.

The Cheetah rolled his shoulders, tilting his head as he thought. What spell first?

Something small, something easy, as a bit of a warm-up. Static, perhaps? He had already used it once, on the walk over, but this was the beginning of a practice, and so he would not count that.

Nodding, he felt weak sparks dance along his flesh, crown flashing for a brief moment as his Magic did as it was bid.

Alright, that had been pathetic.

Reign shook his head, dispersing the static that had been trapped in his fur. That had definitely not been the strongest cast of that spell he had done, and he aimed to rectify that. Surely it could do much more? He was determined to pull off a proper usage of the spell, at least.

So he tugged at his Magic again, his crown gleaming for a brief moment as sparks danced across his pelt before fading away.

Well that, too, had been pathetic.

Reign frowned, shaking his head. What was going on with his Magic, recently?

No, thinking on it, his Magic had always been like this. Refusing to do as he wished, refusing to answer him, period. He hated to admit it but, sometimes, he found himself envious of Pride, the stag who could seemingly wield any spell with little effort while he, despite trying as hard as he could, found himself floundering.

Losing his grip for a moment, faltering slightly, he shoved, trying to force his Magic to do as he wished. But again, the sparks only danced for a moment before fizzing away.
