Kerberos listened because he had to. He was prowling forward slowly, and her words came harsh in his ears because he gave her the time to change her mind and back off and instead she spoke. The heads to either side looked at the middle head as she singled out a single head-- Kerberos realized she was talking to just one part of him.

He had three parts, three heads. Most creatures, in fact, every creature he had met so far, only had one head. He had taken this for granted up until now, but it was true-- they thought independently, although similarly, on everything. He spoke to himself and he acted on three wavelengths at once. It was... Weird.

His thoughts spun, each brain independent from one another. Why is middle better? No, I am better. I am me, me is not better than other mes... Middle isn't better! I wanna be best! The middle head was concerned, desperate to prove himself to, well, himself, that he was just like the other two.

And so, while the others watched him, his body still moved forward, his middle head cocking to one side as he approached, carefully. He didn't want to miss his pounce, not this time. "Why are they yours?" The other heads turned to look back at her, though for a moment he stopped growling and bearing his teeth.

"... Remember, I played?" One head offered to the others. "Played to eat." The middle head nodded, considering. What did it mean that he had three heads, that he wasn't like the others? At first he thought it meant he was powerful and awesome and could eat three times as fast as everything and everyone else, but... But now he was considering... Was he weird? Why was he different?

"Play, and who wins gets bones," Kerberos offered to himself more than Giggle, for he was struggling to understand himself and it was a bit easier to distract himself with a new idea. "Okay! Yeah!" All heads in agreement, the giant white puppy lunged for Giggle, attempting to tackle her with his massive paws.

He spoke--he was speaking--more to himself, than to her. She'd opened her mouth twice to respond, and when he kept speaking, realized she wouldn't get the chance.

When he lunged, she was ready--tensed as she'd been since the massive, aggressive three-headed creature had arrived at her bone pile. She had seen what he was to become, but not yet--not yet; for now, he was dangerous. Still--play? Did he mean that, or was it some instinctive lie to get her to lower her guard...? No matter. She'd fight. Her teeth bared down to gums, a chilling growling chitter escaping her as she sprang to one side. She wasn't the most nimble creature in the world--but Kerberos himself was lumbering, his charge like the still somewhat-clumsy leap of a puppy.

She'd have to be careful not to be pinned down. She wasn't a fighting creature, she was crafty, but now she didn't have much choice.

As Kerberos missed his lunge, she then leapt back in, aiming for the back of his neck--the near one, the right one, the aggressive one with the short-torn ears. She would, if she could, seize it, practically riding him with her upper body, thrashing with his scruff in her jaws. If, that is, she could catch him.

It seemed like Giggle was going to play. He missed her, slidding on a bone under his paw, and lost her in his flurry of movement. Each head was a distraction-- movement that blocked vision most of the time. When he was older, perhaps he would master it, but as a puppy he was clumsy and careless and this was his downfall in most fights.

He felt her before he saw her again, claws on his shoulder and scruff and neck. The scarlet nosed, short eared head yowled in pain, teeth in his mane of fluffy white fur. He didn't like getting bitten, and in frustration floppy orange earred tried to reach over to bite but couldn't quite reach, and middle head didn't help much either, flailing about trying to figure out where she had gone. Trying to see.

"Get off!" The attacked head snapped and snarled, before barking the familiar count down order to the others. "One!" The number immediately was responded to by the others:

"Two!"

"Now!" Woofed the farthest head, a power building up in his gem on his paw. It flowed through his body and he harnessed the power, trying to push the hyena off of him with his magic. If the spell worked, at the very least he would displace all the bones more, shoving them away from Giggle and Kerberos, but in a best case scenario she would be sent flying.

He didn't stop to think what would happen if he failed.

It was with a fierce, frustrated snarl that she was pushed back, shoved back to the ground--skidding back and away, stumbling, the bones shaking on the floor--was this magic?! He had counted down--what had that been?

But there was scarcely time to figure it out. Her own puppy-side was furious, raging in fact, but her adult side was trying to think of how to end this, and quickly. If she told him that she wanted no game, he might misunderstand, and decide it was "for real" instead.

If it wasn't already.

"NO!" was all she snapped out--and then she dashed in behind, trying to seize him by the middle of his tail and drag, so he wouldn't be able to face her so easily.

Hopefully she could snatch it before he turned to meet her lunge, face-face-face to face.

Bones clattered around him and his heads shook as if he had a bucket of water dropped on him and he wanted to get dry as quickly as possible. By now he was lost in the thrill of the fight, though he hated the pain, he loved the rush. The cerberus turned, whipping around, but found that he still couldn't find the hyena-- until he felt a sharp, horrible pain on his tail.

"OOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!"

Unlike before, when others had bit near to his neck where the pain was mostly localized towards one head-- this pain shot up through his spine and each head felt the agony equally.

He yowled, and began to run circles, racing around, flailing, trying to get the hyena off of his tail. It hurt so bad, why would anyone bite his tender, soft, baby scaled tail! Magic had gotten her off before, so he thought he had to try again. "Again, again!" Barked the dog, desperately, to his other heads. "Yeah, okay!"

"One-- the tail-- one!"

"Two!" His paw began to glow a deep maroon, a color that started to trail up his leg and down his spine to his tail.

"Now!" His voice roared, and the energy reached his tail where it would transfer the momentum of the energy to Giggle, assuming it worked. The puppy slid to a stop on the bones, digging his claws into Canis' dusty floor.

Yes! She had his tail! She--No! No, no! No!

Giggle hung on for dear life as Kerberos thrashed and flailed, growling shrilly in frustration. She had no control over this situation; he was big, strong, his magic was far more aggressive than hers, he--

He's counting down again!

This time the spell hit her full-force, before she had a chance to release or otherwise react, and her jaws slammed shut on thin air as she felt her body flying.

SHIT--

She hit the ground with a hard thud, and remained half-crouched. She had to do something, something else, before he closed in and bit down.

The fungi. Yes, the mushrooms. She would--she would call on it, cover herself, make herself gross-tasting and unbiteable, and--

What poured over her wasn't the red carrion-stench fungus she had intended to call up. Instead, instinctive and unbidden, a series of soft, thick black frills emerged from her skin and hide, sticky and tacky and chokingly thick, and although Giggle didn't know quite what they were, nonetheless she knew that they were right. This was right.

She looked up, still staggered, fangs baring at Kerberos as she waited for his attack. With the spell-casting, she wouldn't have time to react, anyway. Assuming he didn't just cast magic, again.

Kerberos was free. His tail felt hot, burning, and as he wiggled around to make sure he hadn't lost his butt or anything. His scaly tail was bleeding, and though floppy ears tried to reach it and lick it clean, the other two wanted vengeance and crimson nose had seen where Giggle ran off to.

In a moment, the white puppy was bounding off- one head trying to wriggle to his butt while the others were focused on the hyena's blackening body. It was weird, whatever she was doing, but he didn't care.

"No, no, bad! Tail no, no tail. Let me fix--!" One head tried to woof to the others, but them middle much preferred the other's idea now that blood had been drawn:

"Eat, eat!"

She had hurt him and he had full rights to hurt her back, right? He would eat her. Yes, perfect! Snarling, cropped ears laid back, red nose snapped his teeth at her, barreling towards her as fast as he could. Little did he know those awful black spores would be terrible to bite, little did he know that he would get all stuck and mucky from trying to hurt her.

He didn't care much anyway. He was an angry oversized puppy who wanted all the bones and he was going to "play" and win! ... And he did bite. The black squished over his muzzle, coated his face, blinding him. The other head was hit too-- the sticky, strange, mucus-y fungus coating his face... And poor orange nose was still trying to get at his tail.

It was stupid, what she did next, but she was angry and she saw her opening, and the main thought in her mind was to press this fight and finish it before it got further out of hand. Kerberos had to be brought under control. Had to be.

Had to be, or she was as good as eaten, apparently.

"NO, KERBEROS!" she shouted. "NO!" Her tone was scolding, reprimanding.

And then, as if to drive home her point, she darted forward and tried to seize the snout of the aggressive crop-eared head in her own jaws. Thick fangs slashed the air, claws scrabbling over stone, black sludge sliding thickly over her coat as she lunged.

If she managed, she'd again try to jerk him all over the place, twisting and pulling--if she missed, well. At least her bones would end up somewhere fitting.

Giggle was very mad at him and he sort of understood why. Her teeth chomped over his muzzle and he found he couldn't bite back because of it-- sure, center head could bite her but he didn't want to get bit either, or uh, more? And as always, the other head was lost, whining about his tail. The black gunk made him feel so uncomfortable, he wanted to pull away and wash the sticky stuff off.

His face was covered in black gunk and he couldn't see and he couldn't move his mouth, he couldn't really breathe well. Instinct drove him to make himself, or at least the room, hotter. He wanted, for some reason, to set himself on fire and that registered in tapping into his ability to heat the air up-- but not much else-- as he tried to wiggle away.

He had been properly scolded and now he did not want to eat nasty tasting, inky Giggle. She was bigger and tougher and had sharp teeth and he just wanted to shake her off but she was shaking him and it was kinda terrible. So the puppy just whined, making the room at best vaguely uncomfortable but not too harmful. Maybe she would let him go though, maybe. He was sorry, really, he was!

;; post roll

.. And as if to mimic his emotions, the area instead became quite hot, and then quite cold, fluctuation wildly out of control. It was a bizarre sensation, and only served to make the poor puppy be even more upset.

There, that was it--he was upset, recoiling, spearing magic out at random, or so it seemed--had the air just gotten warmer...? She shook her head; now was not the time to think about that.

She had to finish this now, when--was it cold now?! Just what had he done?

He was scrambling backwards, and Giggle took the chance to shove forward, aiming her chest and shoulder for his own chest, trying to upend and knock him back and down. Of course, he was heavy as a boulder, so she might just bounce off. But it was the principle of the thing! She just wanted to knock him down and... and lick him!

"SIT DOWN AND LET ME CLEAN YOU," she barked, rather aggressively. Wait, what? That hadn't been her plan--he was huge and could've killed her, he'd wanted to eat her. Curse this mothering instinct. It was one thing to take in baby puppies and fluff-black-crow-balls, but giant three-headed dogs that rolled in her bone-pile?

No, Giggle, this is suicide.

But she didn't really care. Her hyena mane bristling on end, shivering with the adrenaline rush, she tried to knock the big fluffy white-three-headed-dog to the ground to aggressively groom him. Surely that would show him who was, uh, boss...?

Just before she made contact, she barked again: "HOLD STILL!" It'd all be rather ironic if she failed in her tackle, so she just had to hope she didn't make herself look like a fool with this.

She had to hope, instead, that the situation was back under control--or as close to "under control" as it could ever get.

But nope, he was huge, and off she bounced, biting her tongue as she hit the ground and getting a face full of her own inky cap on her missed licking to boot. She hit the floor dazed and blinking, with the dual tastes of her own blood and nasty fungal sludge fighting for "yuck" dominance in her mouth.

...Damn it.
