ORIGIN

A small hunk of shiny, metallic Pyrite sat in the middle of the tunnel. A quiet scratching noise could be heard from within the crystal, as the creature within slowly woke up and began to try to escape. The scratching was almost tentative at first, testing the chrysalis for the weakest spots, before growing louder and more aggressive.

Suddenly, a loud crack! rung throughout the tunnel as the chrysalis finally broke apart. In the middle of a pile of shiny gem shards sat a Gila monster hatchling, staring at their surroundings with a mixture of curiosity and confusion. Quickly, their attention was caught by one of the crystal shards that had once made up the structure that had imprisoned them.

Shiny! Pretty! They thought, pawing at one of the shards. I want to be pretty too! Not even noticing a chunk of the same gemstone on their tail tip, the newly-hatched gembound began to explore, looking for something to affix the shiny gemstone to themself.

notes: Backdated before "On the Search - Sort Of"

Qisziux went around the area surrounding his hatching-site in a circle, searching and scouring the area for anything that could be used as a string- a vine, maybe a woody root or an actually piece of string? He was just about to decide it's a lost cause when he saw a root poking a low part of the wall, just within reach. He grabbed onto it tightly, and pulled and pulled and pulled-

-and then went flying back as the thing they were pulling on snapped in two. He landed on his back with a thump! The piece of root was still in his mouth, but it was way too small and weak to be useful. He spat it out with a frustrated look, and quickly glanced around to check if anyone else saw. Not noticing anyone else in the tunnel, he continued on his search.

Deciding that the area around his chrysalis was void of anything useful, and feeling a bit brave, he decided to go even farther down the tunnel, though he make sure the shards of pyrite were still within sight. He made sure to be more careful this time, not wanting another fall like what had just happened.

Finally, Qisziux found something good enough for his purposes. A thin but tough and flexible vine, poking out from the soil. He carefully dug the vine out, tearing off the roots at the end. He then found a spiderweb, thankfully vacent, which he also took. He walked back to his hatching site with the loot. He then carefully picked out the prettiest looking shard. He wrapped the vine around the shard, securing it with the spiderwebs just to be safe. He then, after much trial and error with his clumsy lizard claws, managed to tie the ends together.

Very pretty! He thought joyfully, But could be prettier? He then felt the unfamiliar tingle of magic through his claws as he clasped the pyrite shard tight.

Qisziux's face lit up with a grin as the pyrite shard began to gentle glow. He quickly put the crudely made necklace around his neck, still admiring the glowing gem fragment. He thought about making even more, but he was happy enough with only one. After all, if he made more it wouldn't be as unique and pretty, right?
