The goose had found the gemstones some time ago - returning to the place she'd emerged, in search of some kinds of answers - what she was supposed to do, why this had all happened...and perhaps the entrance to Hydra would give her something. But she'd been concerned with something else at her return to this place - a number of gemstones, most of them quite large, lined up at the tunnel's mouth.

She paused, confused. Why are these all here? There were a lot of them, more then ten, actually. Had they all died at the same time? And what irony, what coincidence, that she would come here, the place where she had been in her chrysalis as well, emerging as a creature anew, to find so many others in that same position?

So she sat down to wait, watching curiously, for the creatures within to emerge.

Oleander, for whatever reason, emerged alone, her obsidian stone suddenly breaking and jerking her back to consciousness. She bucked suddenly, feeling the cramped closeness of her gem and having a sudden flashback to her time in Hydra, hatching and immediately falling into grave danger. She didn't want that to happen now!

As she broke the gemstone away and tumbled out, she blinked, trying to remember what was happening, looking back at the entrance to the desert-cave. At first she pulled a blank, but then she remembered what she'd been doing there and she looked around. Nobody else was up, maybe others had already left, but she was alone.

Wait...no, she wasn't there was a bird sitting a little ways away, staring straight at her with curiosity. She didn't recognize the bird and got to her feet, stumbling over. "Hey, uh, I don't remember you running the Trials with us? Are you just waiting for someone?"

She watched with amazement as a zebra emerged from the shards of one of the stones, silent as she trotted over. She looked...like a normal zebra, besides the color which, she noted, was pale and tinted red, like her. Had they all gone through the same ordeal as her? She wondered, then, if she could get some information from her about what they'd been doing. Maybe there were answers here.

She shook her head lightly with a small laugh. "No, I don't even know what the Trials are. I'm going through a personal issue and thought I should return here - I hatched from a mutation I can't remember some cycles ago and I wanted to come back to see if I could get some answers." She tilted her head, looking up at the equine. "Can you tell me about the Trials? Maybe it's part of the answer."

Oleander already found herself swaying to like this goose. She was soft, gentle, kind and that gave warmth to her heart. She smiled and folded her legs to sit next to her, so that she wasn't towering so high above the goose. "Answers? Like why you mutated? What do you remember from waking up?" She cast a glance back at Hydra, a small frown appearing on her face. "I don't think you'll get any answers from the Trials, though. It was just an event that we," and here she gestured towards the other chrysalis, "ran through some cycles ago. We were trapped in that cave for a while and had to survive. I can still remember my life from before."

She looked down at herself - she knew, that her own reward was for the merchant's help with revival but she couldn't help but be disappointed that nothing else was different about her. "A lot of us get mutations and stuff, but my reward is different. Still, maybe I could help?"

She deflated a bit, disappointed. "Ah, I see. Then yeah I don't think that's what happened to me. I woke up alone and there weren't any evidence of chrysalis nearby. Only this," she looked down and raised her wing, showing Oleander the crystal that rested on her chest. "I can't remember anything, not from before the moment I woke up, but sometimes I get flashes of memory and instincts. I know I'm scared of Hydra, even if there was no reason to be frightened of it at first. And I know that this gem means more to me then my own life."

She sighed and folded back her wings, the gem bouncing back to settle on her chest again. "I just woke up. Hatched here. This stone was at the foot of my chrysalis and...just looking at it made me cry. I've looked into its past a few times to get some answers, but sometimes they're more confusing then anything else."

Oleander leaned forward and touched the gemstone softly. She wondered if she could ever love something so deeply when she remember, faintly, that burning passion she'd held during the Trials. For...who was it again? Gatto, the chicken-creature? That first was still within her, but she hadn't seen him for some time. Perhaps when he woke up again...it would be reignited and nobody would hope to match her love.

Still, she sympathized with the goose. If she had Gatto's stone, she would love it more then life itself. She would do anything to bring them back to life. The idea came to her head, softly at first, but then all at once. "Have you ever thought about reviving it? There's life inside, right? Maybe that will bring you some answers."

The suggestion didn't phase her - of course she'd thought about it. Almost every day she had. But there were so many reasons not to even try it. She'd once felt uncomfortable with the idea, almost like this was too precious to her to even be revived, that the creature inside would never be the same once it was given new life, but now that that discomfort was gone, and she yearned only to see who it was, she feared she'd fail and the chance would be lost forever.

And something, deep in her, told her she wasn't worthy enough for it. She'd lost the right to revive it long ago. And she had a uncomfortable feeling why.

"I have but I guess I'm too scared. I'm not great with magic and I'm terrified I'll break it. I'd love to...seriously, I'd do anything to see the one in this stone again but...I can't."

Oleander rose to her feet. "What if you don't have to be scared? What if there was a way to guarantee he's given life again?" When the goose only looked at her confused, she smiled. "My reward was to give life without fail. I don't really think I'll have a use for it, so maybe I could use it for you?" She nodded towards the stone. "So your friend can live again."

This was such a nice thing she was doing, right? When Gatto woke up, they'd be so proud of her for being so kind. Being generous was an attractive quality and, after all, it wasn't like Oleander was lying - why would she ever need her give life again? Gatto actually dying and needing this chance to revive didn't even cross her mind. There was just no way they'd ever die and leave her behind.

She stared with shock at Oleander. It was incredible that she was offering this to her - it was not something she was ready for and, for just a moment, she felt of that glimmer of hope that shone so brightly so much of the time. But then all of her insecurities came back, pressing down and choking her, forcing her to tentatively shake her head. "That's...that's so generous of you but...I don't know. I'm not sure I would be ready for that."

Indecisiveness plagued her mind. "Can you give me time to think about it? If I change my mind I'll come back to you."

Oleander nodded. "I understand," she whispered. "Then I'll leave you to it. I'll stay near Canis, then, in case you'll need me."

She reached down to gingerly touch the goose's head before walking away, glancing back once before exiting the tunnel.
