ORIGIN

It was amazing how carefully magic could craft a whole new being, starting with just a singular gaspéite. Once involved, magic simply did the rest. The moment the protective case of the chrysalis had cracked under the pressure of the growing body marked the creation of a new life. A new life with its own purpose and sentience. Within seconds of the first crack, the protective shell could no longer support the bearing pressure that was Kimya's own body. Upon waking, he was pulled onto his back by gravity as faint sounds of the waterfall some ways away hissed into his pointed ears. His dark maw opened in his first breath as the air, heavy with humidity, greeted him.

The impact with the ground didn't hurt at all. He had been quite close to the ground to start with, and he was simply too light at the moment to fall that hard. Or perhaps it was all that baby hyena fuzz cushioning him. Or both. Soon, his weight would shift to the left slightly, bringing the boy to roll onto his side involuntarily as he stared ahead, processing what had just happened in wonderous silence. He existed, now. He was alive. Not that he quite knew the words to use to describe his presence or what even being alive meant. He didn't know much, having only existed for just a few seconds, but he had lots of time to grow and learn. He laid there, taking in the new sights of the cave walls and ceiling, uncertain how to proceed.

He made no move to really right himself from his lying position. It was comfortable, and still, the hyena had not a clue on what to do now. He had no goals and priorities beyond his basic instinct to survive. His yellow-green eyes, the same color as the oval stone upon his left temple, gazed around, seeking out a hint on what to do next rather than just lay there.

And there it was.

It was ginormous. Ginormous, anyways, to a tiny little child such as he. His eyes grew wide, eager to absorb all of the details visible to him, such as the strange, angled shape of its head, or perhaps the giant pokey extensions emerging from said strangely-shaped head. The hyena tossed back his own head, hoping to test for the existence of his own pokey extensions, but there seemed to be none that scraped against the rocky ground. He wouldn't notice the magic cast upon him, for it wasn't visible nor were the effects anything to cause new sensations he would be aware of. Though, perhaps if he knew the concept of magic or gratitude, the latter may have been offered in a way.

'Hello there,' it had said, and Kimya couldn't help but stare. uncertain on how to react. He made no move to respond, instead doing the opposite and pressing his teeth together behind closed lips as he rocked until controlled balance enabled him to sit up for a better view of the towering creature. So tall and strange looking. Pokey extensions from the head, much shorter fur, very pointy face... The little hyena wondered what else may be different.

He was so fascinated in the different shapes and angles of the creature that he almost missed the verbal nudge to speak. He blinked, craning his neck until he could see the face of the creature once more. That weird-looking, pointy face with pokey extensions. Was he expected to do what the other was doing? Brows furrowed thoughtfully as he fell back on his fluffy haunches. But why? The little hyena felt quite content doing what he was doing now.

Though, it would seem that he could only find new things to discover about the physical appearance of the ungulate to gawk at for so long. Within moments, he found himself itching for new stimuli. Replaying the other's words inwardly, Kimya's maw tipped open slightly, testing replication. However, all that came out was incoherent muttering, nothing nearly as organized as a fully-fledged word, try as he might.
