He’d left the pile of bones where they were – the pile that made up his previous meal that is, and had exited the spire. Polaris was still a gem to be discovered and Rafael was not done with it yet. With gentle click-clacking of hoof and talon sounds, the peryton moved forward with a gently suggestive aura, curved brown haunches rolling forward in a smooth display of slender muscle, sinew and innocence coalesced into a single entity. Occasionally, the calf flicked his tufty, white ears and snuffled through his moist black nose, grey eyes lighting upon his surroundings with innocence. He came to a stop in the main area then and looked at the lights dancing above him. How bright and…merry. Perhaps someone else was here enjoying the sights? Rafael tapped the ground with his hoof, and bleated to no one in particular, throwing his vocals as loud as a fawn could.

Since her self-imposed exile it had been a while since the lioness had come to Polaris since it was so close to Pisces. The place brought back too many memories but since she was on her way to recovery she supposed that she would have to get over her fears. It was a beautiful place and a shame that she hadn't been here in so long.

The gems on the walls sparkled intensely and the waters were beautiful as always. Actually... she wondered if Eeya was there. With a little pep to her step she went to the waters and splashed them with her paw. She waited for a few moments until she heard something behind her. Her head turned and her eyes laid upon the form of a deer... or bird? A deer-bird thing... that was what it looked like. How peculiar! She just had to get a better look at him! Eeya could wait for now.

The lioness approached the creature with a smile on her face. Before she stopped a few paces from him she gave a chuff to get his attention. Her ears perked and her tail lifted high in greeting. "Hello there! It's rather beautiful here, isn't it?" Of course it was beautiful! Who wouldn't love this place? "What's your name? I'm called Makyna Songcat." Always the polite one she introduced herself, the kind smile still on her face.

His bleats rang out clear in Polaris and resonated with an almost melodic tune. Rafael then switched to a nicker, tossed his head a little and pawed the ground with his hoof. From the corner of his vision, a creature extracted herself from the water’s edge and padded over to him with a low chuff of greeting. Rafael snorted and pawed the ground in reply, then affixed his grey eyes onto her calmly as the bright and perky cat spoke. Immediately, he ruled this gembound out as food but perhaps, she could grab him some?

She smiled and her bright tone couldn’t help but infect his mood as well. Rafael bleated happily in reply and shook his head left and right while tapping his front hooves like in a little dance – or a young stag getting ready for its first battle without the fierce snorting and gleaming eyes. She introduced herself then as Makyna, so he felt he’d do the same. "Rafael,” he replied in a coarse, young elk voice with a grating screeching undertone. He nodded solemnly and grinned as she mentioned how wonderful this place was. Of course, he nodded in agreement. He’d tortured the cave deer here much to his delight and it’d proven his favourite meal thus far. How else could any other cave compare to Polaris at this point in time?

The peryton snorted and, shifted forward, sniffing at the lioness to catch her scent, wondering whether she might have a trail of blood lingering off her pelt. "Food,” he spoke the universally acclaimed word, then stepped back and regarded her with gentle dove grey eyes.

The young stag seemed awful happy to see her! He moved about in a little dance which caused the lioness to let out a peal of happy laughter. How cute! When he spoke his voice was like that of a deer but with a tone that reminded her of a bird. Well, that was rather fitting wasn't it? "Rafael. That's a nice name, little one, it's nice to meet you!" Her voice conveying her sincere words. Somehow Rafael seemed to suit him quite well.

Makyna allowed the deer-bird to approach her, not moving away. In fact she extended her own nose forward to catch his rather unique scent. Her eyes softened at his word and she nodded her head. "Well, I do believe I can find you some. Come along." She waved her tail in a "follow me" gesture before turning and walking away, expecting Rafael to follow.

The lioness stopped walking at a bush. She didn't know exactly what sort of bush it was but surely it was the type that young deer... things, liked. "There you are. Food!" If only she knew that the peryton liked to eat meat, then she probably would have caught him a fish.

The lioness leaned in to sniff at him and seemed keen on his suggestion! Rafael snorted and pawed the ground, then gave yet another happy shake of his antlers. He remembered to wag his tail too. Actions of a perfectly normal gembound in indicating happiness, nothing out of the ordinary, yet that which was, a carefully orchestrated move for the boy. The peryton nickered to her gently. Picking up his heels almost in a prancing motion, Rafael followed after the lioness’ long, feline tail. He kept close to her, mimicking amiable actions of a recent newborn which he was – only that such mannerisms came at greater cost to his dignity for his intellect was twisted and mentally, not fully developed. He only knew that to mimic was to survive.

She led him to a bush then, and the deer snorted and snuffed at it. A refreshing tinge of chlorophyll and faint florals assuaged his senses. In the mood for salad, Rafael did not hesitate to tuck in. He tugged at the leaves and munched on it, happy to fill his stomach. Although grass was his diet rather than leaves or bushes, the grazer was not very fussy so long as it tasted good and it did. Rafael chuffed and snorted, vocalizing his elk expressions of eager munching and after some time, was done. He stepped back then and regarded the lioness with curious grey eyes, wondering what she would do next.
This fellow was just so pleasant to be around! He seemed kind and sweet and oh so innocent. Hmm... Did he have a home yet? As she watched him eat her head tilted to the side. Tail swishing slowly behind her as she looked thoughtful for a moment. The lioness leaned forward and gingerly nicked a tiny berry. Fruits weren't so bad. A different taste than the salty flavor of meat, the sweetness was certainly welcome.

After the creature finished eating it stepped back and looked at her. Ky smiled happy that he was full and sated. How old was this fellow? Certainly still young but not young enough that it was looking to be adopted and given a home was it? For some reason she felt that he wasn't but it didn't hurt to ask. "Where are you from, young one?" Her head tilted to the side, eyes questioning. "Do you have a home?"

“Where are you from, young one?” the lioness’ melodic voice rang forth even as she held herself sturdily, compact muscles showing beneath her tawny pelt. Young one? The peryton snorted and huffed, fixing his blank gaze upon her. He blinked slowly from behind long lashes and then tossed his muzzle and nickered like a foal in blind agreement. Where was he from. He thought hard and vaguely remembered hatching among some cliffs and then wandering around the room with stars. Licking his teeth and smacking his lips together awkwardly like a cow or horse, the fawn readied his voice to reply. "High cliffs. Yes, Rafael was born above the rest…” his voice trailed off raspily. He shook his head and pawed the ground as she continued, ears laid back in mock sadness. "No, no home. Wander. Eat.” Then he attempted to step closer and looked forlornly at the other, elk eyes expanding its large pools of grey, watery and empathy inducing. "Lost,” he spoke, dragging out the syllables in a single bleat, then hung his head down low, desolate and forlorn.
High cliffs? Above the rest? Where exactly was that? There was only two places she could think of with cliffs. One was in Monoceros and the other was in Orion. Had he been born there? If he was then this poor fellow had wandered very far. When he said he had no home she wasn't surprised and yet she felt her heart twist for him. No one should be lost and alone, especially not someone as young as he. The poor creature! Now, she would just have to do something about that.

Makyna stepped forward and bumped her head gently against his shoulder, reassuring him. "I'm so sorry you are lost, Rafael. No friends, no family, it must be hard." She looked into his eyes, sincerity and kindness in her blue pools. "Do not worry though, if you wish it I can take you back to Pisces and you can be a part of my family." She took a step back, smile on her face. "What do you say?"

"Talking looks like this!"
Thinking looks like this...
The lioness returned his broken, pathetic dramatic play with a gush of concern. He knew it – deep inside his heart, the peryton smirked. He knew that his childlike appeal tended to work on most creatures especially if they were female. Now he pricked his ears and swept his furry tail gently behind his rump as she gave him another proposition. “You can be part of my family.” Family, what was that? Cold, twinkling stars beneath the large sky of Orion? Creatures whom he had met but regarded him as a freak of nature, just because he was built like an elk and hawk with firebird rolled into one? Agitated, Rafael swung his head low and moaned, then pawed the ground with his foot and snorted. Family! FAMILY! How DARE she suggest such a thing to him and say it was hard. Nothing was too hard for him, no hardship too pain for him to bear! Rafael screeched and reared up, flailing his elk limbs while balancing on his hindquarters, moving backwards and throwing out his hooves, warning the lioness to stay away from him even as he shifted back. He snorted and his flank trembled, shiny in sweat even as the whites in his eyes emerged. "Fami..famiillyyy?!” He screeched and guffawed, screech like sounds with hoarse elk vocalizations mixed together. "No, you stay. Here.” He screeched and then landed his hooves onto a ground with a clatter and looked at the lioness. She was going to stay here, and she was going to take care of him!
When his head lowered the lioness stepped back up to him, concern stamped all across her soft features. Had she offended him? What had she said to do so? She was about to say something but was stopped when the elk suddenly reared up and flailed his limbs in the air. The lioness barely avoided catching a sharp hoof in the eye. "Peace, young one, peace!" She said, trying to calm him down before he hurt either himself or her.

Apparently the idea of a family didn't appeal to him at all. Was she wrong in assuming that he was ready to be taken in by Maji Walezi and by her? Would he get along with the others she'd already adopted? When he spoke those short words, the disjointed sentence, her head tilted slightly. She was uncomprehending for a moment then it dawned on her. Stay here... With him? No. She'd already forced an exile on herself once, she was loathe to do it again. Not without help from her friends at least. The bird-deer might hate family but she did not.

Her head shook as she looked at him, her voice was soft and kind but there was a firmness to it, the firmness of one who wouldn't be talked out of her decision. "I'm sorry, young one, but we cannot stay here. Polaris is not my home, Pisces is." She smiled and attempted to laugh the whole thing off like it was just a joke. He was just a child, this was nothing more than a little tantrum of a nervous fawn. "I promise you that Pisces is a lovely home. You'll love everyone there." She gave a resolute nod of her head. Yes. He was just a troubled child but she would help him.
