The Oily stone that Eythan has given life to was a fledgling-level creature of strange design. Though somewhat insectoid in appearance, with a slightly shark-like head, its skin was thick and soft across the entirety of its body. Spines or fins rose up in places, and flexible plates--outgrowths of the soft hide--provided minimal protection, and bristles laced its various legs. Its forelimbs were long, pointed and designed for grasping, in an almost mantis-like shape; the second pair were smaller, pincer-like, and designed for strong and precise manipulation of smaller objects. The hind limbs were reversed, folding upward instead of back, and the four talons were similar to those of owls: two forward, two back, designed for gripping and climbing. In color, this creature was soft hues of greens, with paler yellow-green countershading down the lower jaw, throat, chest and belly. Six eyes--three per side--were perfectly round and shark-like, and matched spots across its wings, neck and flanks in both color and very bright bioluminescence. Its wings were likewise soft, almost butterfly-like in shape, though the top wings were capable of folding and spreading. In side, this creature was perhaps five feet tall, weighing about a hundred sixty pounds; it was extremely agile, maneuverable and strong, but not very fast. A small but thick, bristly tail provided it with some counter-balance in its flight. Another odd part of this creature was its diet: though it was capable of eating anything (with nausea afterward, and little nutrition gained) it subsisted primarily on minerals. Powerful jaws held a shearing set of pointed teeth at the front, and massive, crushing molars behind, allowing it to chew and consume pebbles, dirt, sand and even to break pieces off larger rocks and gemstones. It was somewhere between warm- and cold-blooded: it had a low body temperature and would sometimes need to find external light or heat, but it also generated some of its own and could go longer than most cold-blooded creatures in the cold.
This creature seemed to have been designed with a very specific purpose in mind, though what that was, it's hard to immediately tell. It was
highly-sensitive to electrical current through a series of subcutaneous pit-like organs along its snout; even slight fluctuations in power were noticeable to it. Its thick, rubbery skin was highly-resistant to electrical current. It was capable of extreme flexibility: its soft hide, size, agility and strength allowed it to maneuver through even narrow spaces, and to manipulate its environment with its highly-specialized limbs. Its personality had a few in-built traits, seemingly to reinforce its intended behavior: it was calm, methodical, diligent and active, likely to move swiftly and attentively from task to task. Whatever this behavior was, it was its own reward: the creature was a hard worker, and gained contentment from being so.
