His hands back in his lap, Azrael watched Banshy for a moment with all the fondness his fairly reserved expressions could muster. Well, now he knew what it felt like to be a father in both ways - adopted and by blood. And he found the experience to be relatively the same, but there was a different kind of emotion looking at the bird creature, because he saw himself in its shape and its wings. He had created that, and now it had a life of its own.

It was incredible.

And he decided, then, that he would not lie to the creature. He would not go into a familial relationship with them without telling them why they existed in the first place.

"Banshy," he rumbled softly. "There is something I must tell you." He glanced down at Forgraves. "And you - I have not told you the full story, but it is important to me that you hear it. Will you listen?"

@Forgraves
he looked to banshy's offering, taking it in a paw gratefully. "thank you... its wonderful" he smiled.

he looked to azrael with curiosity, after a moment. what was this about?
when faced with the question, he nodded his head cautiously. what was azzy on about?

@Banshy

"You are welcome," the bird-demon, twitching their head back and forth, before turning to their magic-giver when they heard their name, tilting their head in a 'yes?' sort of way.

It sounded... grave, serious. And so they nodded, squatting down to rest on a comfortable way, "Yes, of course. What is it?" as they reached out and grabbed a nearby skull, rolling it over and over in their hands, worrying it with the blunt side of their talons.

Banshy;

@Azrael

Azrael valued honesty. It was a bit ironic, considering that he was loud and proud a demon of darkness, personification of all things sinful, but perhaps it came with the heavyset pride that formed the foundations of who he was. Lying was, in his eyes, a form of weakness - it meant that the liar couldn't handle the truth, that they weren't strong enough to own up to their own actions. He hated lying and he resented the times that he had to do it; but for this, honesty was essential. It could decide the core of their relationship and it would show them exactly who he was - and if he didn't tell Banshy the truth, he might as well be lying to them.

He cleared his throat. "When I myself hatched, many cycles ago, I was a brute and a beast. I thought, but it was on basic desires. I did not...understand things. I had a visitor in my first moments. A small bird, about this big." He held out to hands to show them how big the little crow had been. "When I saw it, I did not understand that it, too, could think, but it could. I caught it. It fought for its life, tried to break free, but I did not listen. I killed it. I ate it. And I dropped its stone to be lost." His eyes looked closely at Banshy, focusing on the white gemstone set in their chest. "This stone now resides in your chest. This bird was once you. I...remembered these things. And I regretted them. So I found the place where I hatched and gave you a second chance, because I cut the first one short." He went quiet then, eyes flicking towards Forgraves, wondering how he'd react to learn that his father was a murderer.

@Forgraves
he looked up, worried, listening intently. what could be so important that it needed to pause a whole moment? not that he minded much.

he listened.
he grew more.. concerned as the story went on. it was visible in his face. he seemed conflicted, and a little worried. he looked at banshy with an odd look. he didn;t know how to feel about this.

on one hand, azrael was only a hatchling. when you're a hatchling, you dont really think much about anything. hell, he thought azrael might eat him when he first showed up.

he looked at azzy, after a moment, to speak.

"ah.. i.. this is definitely news, azzy.." he chirped, nervously. "but.. i dont.. think it'd be fair of me to pass any judgement. i-it was a long time ago, different circumstances and... all that"

@Banshy

and in my hearti see the light

Banshy listened, and they listened well.

It was... a story, certainly. To know that they'd once been so small or, at least, come from something so small, was hard to believe. And though they were young, very young, every creature instinctively fears death, and though they might not have truly understood the gravity of what their sire may have done they understood it well enough.

"You are my sire." they said simply, "I do not, truly, understand much of what you did. But you were young when it was done, and there is not much that can be done about it now."

MONTY

@Azrael

Azrael rumbled. Their reactions were better then he had expected. Although he was quickly figuring out that Banshy was not much one for expressiveness. It wasn't a problem, but something he simply took note of. "Yes. I did not know, or understand, what I was doing. No longer would I kill without reason or eat those that can speak and think. It is wrong, but I cannot, nor will not, deny this wrong I have done." He looked down at Azrael and reached forward to pat his head. "I will not blame you if you see me differently. But I hope to still be a good father to you."

And to Banshy, he offered a grateful grunt. "As long as you live well with this second chance, I will be happy. And I will do what I can to make it a better life then the one I ended so cruelly." Perhaps it was big of him to say, or arrogant, but he didn't care. It was his way of redemption, the only way he could make up for this wrong.

"For now...are you hungry? I will hunt us food." That's right - there was nothing that could be done anymore. Nothing to do but live. And he would make sure their needs were taken care of, because this was the task he had given himself. And he would not fail it.
