At first, there was nothing. Nothing in the trench but darkness. Stasis. Perhaps the whisper of a dream. The promise of life. Something as black and violent and victorious as He. Yes... a male existence... something that was. Something that is. Something once something else--a spire spider trapped in once-living lifeblood of a tree, called sap, now called amber.
Someone amazing.
He was awoken, quite rudely He might add, by prolific cracking surrounding Him. Captured, was He? Who would dare? He let His anger boil up until it burst. Shards of golden sun exploded out around Him. No cage could contain Him! He was--
What was He?
The hatchling still stood with His four wings still outstretched from His glorious birth. He folded them against His body to beginning observing His surroundings. His maw wrinkled. The lack of visual input was not strange to Him. It was a sense He neither knew nor had, so it meant nothing. Nose groped greedily at every smell. It lapped at the ground until bumping against something huge. Much larger than Him. His third arms, the wingless ones, hooked themselves around it, feeling its length. A smooth, tall, bough-like structure. The dragonling decided to... lick it. To His surprise, a serpent shot out of his mouth, or what He thought was one. The whip-like muscle wouldn't bend to His will. It stuck to the thing in front of Him. It felt... hollow, yet strong. Old.
It was bone.
How interesting. He retracted his long tongue and decided to move forward. Only to have His beautiful nose bump in to yet another large bough. It was the same thing. Had to be. So He went into another direction, side-stepping another similar bone, and another, and another one. Like a ribcage. The ground underfoot was soft, mossy, grassy. He wasn't inside something bigger than He, no... not something living anyway. This was undoubtedly a skeleton. At least in part. And He hatched betwix the barren bones. The young bat could only come to one explanation.
This was His (former) skeleton!!
They tried to vanquish Him! HA! Someone as large as He had been? He could disregard the apparent defeat. After all, they failed. Whomever "they" were. Like a phoenix, He rose again anew! No. Not a phoenix.
A GOD.
