"Okay!" Comet heeded Sharp's advice and moved one of the thicker longs to support the center of the house. She noticed that it also stopped the roof from sinking in the middle, making it more sturdy. She left the lizard to work on tying it together with vine, and decided to do the next step. Digging a trench around the building. It shouldn't be too hard, as her paws were made for digging. But she had only ever dug holes before, not a whole entire TRENCH.
She set her paws to work on the ground. Her well muscled legs blasted through the dirt like it was nothing, and soon she had a pretty deep trench around the whole building. Now the only problem was how you would get across. "Sharp, any ideas on how to get across?"

Once she was finished (tediously) tying the ropes together with her teeth, Sharp quickly jumped down and approached the pup again. It seemed she had quickly dug a deep trench around the castle, which was fantastic! Perfectly fantastic!

Of course, the problem reared it's head immediately. As the white pup noted, there wasn't any way to get across the ditch easily. Sure, they could just walk down and back up it, but a quick look over the edge said that that would be needlessly exhausting. "We should'a thought of that earlier..." Sharp mumbled. And then, like a lightbulb flicking on, her thoughts clicked together in her mind. "Oh! Oh! Oh! More wood!" There were a couple more miscellaneous logs and branches lying about, and the lizard quickly bounded over to the nearest pile. "-- 'm not strong enough to move them myself, but if you push those really carefully, and keep the long end facing the far side, it will bridge the gap! Yeah!"

Comet listened to the lizards idea and thought over it in her head. "I"m not sure if I'm strong enough to move the wood but I can try." she didn't want to raise their hopes too high.

The pup walked over to the wood pile and picked a longer one. Moving or pushing it with her paws would not work, because the other end would just fall in the ditch. That meant picking it up in her teeth. That couldn't be too hard... right? Closing her teeth around the wood, Comet lifted it up, and teetered over to the trench.

Unfortunately, her front side was too heavy, and she tripped into the trench along with the stick. "Ouch." It didn't hurt too much, but now the long stick was broken. Looking over to the remaining pile of sticks, she realized she didn't have too many tries left.

They were so close to completion! Just this one log, and it would be done. But Sharp watched in dismay as the chosen branch snapped and ended up broken at the bottom of the moat. Oh no!

The gears were already turning in her head, though. "Don't worry! I can maybe..." she scrambled over, pressed against the log's weakest side, and pushed with all her lizard might. The branch slowly moved, rolling over and over until it landed by the wolf's feet. "We got another log!"

"Yay!" Comet was surprised at how strong the lizard was for her size. Now she could have an other try at getting the log to make a bridge across the moat. Trying it again, the pup pushed with all her might, only for this log to fall to the bottom and snap in half too. "I just can't do it." The two failures in a row had taken a toll on her excitement a bit.

They were so, so close. She could see it! Unfortunately, the second log was pushed to the bottom and ended up cracked. There wasn't much she could do but watch ('curse these tiny legs!'), but it was certain that the pup wasn't getting very motivated by her failure. Well, at least that was something she help with!

"You can do it!" Sharp chirped, waving her long tail back and forth. "Just focus really hard on getting it over, and don't worry too hard, and you'll get it!" Her words weren't the most inspiring, but hopefully it'll encourage the pup to take a few more shots.

Comet was about ready to give up just about now, but the lizard's inspiring words gave her enough encouragement to give it another try. "All right. I'll try again!" the pup found another log, and hauled it over to the moat which was nearly filled to the top with broken wood now.

Finally this time, the log tipped over the right way, and formed a neat bridge across the moat. "Yay!" she celebrated.

And it was done! Sharp thumped her tail in glee when the log finally tipped over. It was so nice to see the house finally complete, and she got some nice stones, too. She scraped the last of the mud on her paws off and turned to face the completed castle. Not too bad, she had to say. Certainly more technologically advanced (and big!) than anything she made before.

"Aaand that should be it! I think." The lizard waddled off and into the hut, admiring their craftmanship. Little gaps of light filtered through the stones and roof, but it was largely secure. Disturbed motes of dust drifted through the air. The mortar did a wonderful job of blocking out the jungle sounds, which would be perfect for sleeping. Her feet kneaded against the soil. Nice and soft (if a bit dirty). Well, this was looking better than even her own home!

"Anything else ya wanna add?" She called through the doorway.

Comet happily bounded after the lizard into the hut, which was finally completed! It had taken a few tries to get the bridge to start working, but other than that everything went smoothly. Inside, she noticed that the mud and rocks acted as good insulation, as it was distinctly warmer than outside. It would be good for the colder days, although it was never that cold in Eridanus. Quieter too, and it blocked out annoying insects. "This place is great!" she turned to the lizard who had helped her, "I think this is good!" Comet gave the wall a thump with her tail, and it stayed strong and sturdy. "Thank you for helping! I think I'm going to... sleep now." And with that, the pup curled into a ball inside the fort and fell asleep.

Well, it was finally done. Sharp watched the pup take a tour inside her little castle, the dust shifting around as she ambled. She had to say, they did a pretty good job. And all in only an hour or so! She pawed off the last of the mud off her scales and watched out of the corner of her eye as the pup curled up for sleep. "You're welcome!" the sungazer called excitedly.

Well, that was her cue to leave. The small lizard slipped out the door and headed back to her cart, slipping the pebble Comet gave her earlier into her cart. One last look at the small, newly made hut, and Sharp was gone, deep into the rainforest.

Late exit for Sharp.
