Pisces was cold. Not so cold that it was unbearable, but noticeably not warm. It was loud, too. The sound of water crashing almost drowned out the sound of Comet lapping up more water.
Good. There was plenty of water here. Far more than there was in Polaris.
"Are you feeling better?" Mayfal didn't realize how scared they were until they heard it in their voice. They didn't try to cover it up. They just wanted Comet to be okay.
@Comet
Mayfal didn't save her life. They were sure Comet would have figured out a way to save herself. Mayfal was just a catalyst. Still, it felt nice to be recognized and thanked. Mayfal decided not to address it.
Instead, Mayfal thought about the promise Comet wanted them to keep. Never be in danger? They were blind.
"I'm always in danger, though." No matter where they would go, they would always have this major vulnerability that could betray them at any time. "You can't be responsible for my safety on top of your own. Not constantly anyway."
The sentiment was harsh, but it was also true. And it would help her in the long run. If something actually did happen to Mayfal, and Comet really couldn't bear it, how well would that end? Mayfal didn't want to think of it. They wanted to change the subject.
"So...this is Pisces?"
@Comet
A very wet place. They could feel dew lining their fur already.
As much as they liked a nice pool, this was another level for Mayfal. An intense and uncomfortable level. They contemplated Comet's description of Pisces. Mossy hills sounded nice; Ledges, especially slippery ones, did not. Many with sight fear heights. Every blind creature finds unnatural height terrifying. The feeling of imminent doom lingers and is paired with the fact that they are completely helpless in the air. Mayfal would not be climbing those ledges any time soon.
They were a little confused by some of Comet's description, though. "What do you mean by 'falls into emptiness'? Surely the water has to go somewhere."
@Comet
A depth that even magic didn't know. And they were already at a height above this depth. There was room to fall, but Mayfal couldn't see the holes in the ground. Were there holes in the ground? How was this place able to support it's own weight if nothingness was underneath it.
Mayfal was starting to feel nauseous. Maybe hunting and eating would take their mind off the subject for a while.
"Yeah. Let's do that. Can I hold your tail, though? Since I've never been here before."
They didn't want to sound scared so they came up with an excuse rather quickly. And, if there were holes in the floor, Mayfal would be able to hold on to something if they took a wrong step. They didn't weigh much, so they probably wouldn't bring Comet down with them. No, she would be strong enough to pull Mayfal back up.
@Comet
Mayfal was careful to stay as close to Comet as possible. There was so much danger in this cave. While holding on to Comet's tail, their own tail was tucked far between their legs. They made no thoughtless steps.
When Comet stopped, Mayfal made sure to stop just as promptly. There was a pool that they could fish in. They remembered their first encounter with fish. Mayfal wondered how Comet knew the trade. They didn't ask, though. They were too busy being scared of everything. Like the three to four feet of 'shallow' water that would completely submerse Mayfal even if they were on their hind legs. They decided they'd stay near the edge and try fishing.
They dipped their paw into the water. There were many sensations rushing around their paw. Slimy, scaly, cold, and stone ones. One scaly thing was passing over Mayfal's paw when they attempted to lift it. They slammed an empty paw on the stone in front of them.
"Grrrrrrr." This whole fishing-in-an-unsafe-environment-while-blind thing was becoming less and less appealing to Mayfal.
