His eyes narrowed and he uncurled himself fully, wings setting against his back as he raised himself back to a sitting position, looking around with confusion.
He expanded his senses, trying to find the others that had been here. All the hive members. But he only felt two heartbeats besides his and Forgraves. One just outside of Polaris and one disappearing out of his range. He was missing almost all of the ones he had seen before.
His mouth was gaped open, shocked and confused.
His head suddenly snapped to look over at Forgraves. With a sudden movement, he grabbed the fox and picked him up, bringing him up to his face and quickly breathing in his scent. He...smelled like Forgraves. Nothing like fungus and nothing like Mother. Confused, he set his son back down.
Action.
He watched Azzy look around, listening to him ramble about mother. whatever he saw.. was mother, apparently. but he didn't.. know who that was. or why anybody would be covered in anybody. that just sounds gross and/or horrifying.
he yipped in shock as Azzy picked him up, sniffing at him. he was real confused right now. he let him do his thing, but he looked 10x more confused now that he had.

This post contains potentially sensitive material:
Azrael stared at Forgraves as he comprehended what he was saying. It wasn't real. It had felt real and looked real and just seemed so real...but it was Mother that had been an illusion. He had been terrified over absolutely nothing. His mouth felt dry and he felt heat pressing against his cheeks. Was that...embaressement?
It was suddenly completely unbearable. He'd made a complete fool out of himself. Thrown himself around, acted like a weakling and a child when there'd been nothing to be afraid of. Forgraves must have been terrified...no, he must see him as such a weakling. The thought gave physical pain to his chest and Azrael took it and coped with it in the only way he knew how - he got angry.
He was on his feet in a second, eyes blazing dangerously.
Why couldn't she just leave him alone?
Action.
the moment Azrael processed what he meant. hell broke loose.
now Azrael was sure Forgraves was ashamed, not terrified, which is 2 things incorrect. he's in no way ashamed, but he is absolutely terrified. he has never heard a more grotesque description of absolutely obliterating another being before and he quite honestly wishes he hasn't, mostly because he does not doubt Azrael absolutely could and would.
however, he lets him rant, and then.. stop. sit on the floor, hide his face, and just.. sit there. now he's totally shaking like a leaf and in his eyes theres so much genuine terror that he could've been mistaken as the target of the rant to anybody else, but no, he just didn't like loud noises, or in depth descriptions of brutal murder. or Azzy being sad, thats also something he hates right now.
he walks over again, sitting beside him. he wasn't sure if azzy wanted to be touched right now, but.. here goes, he guesses. even with how badly he's shaking after that, and how loudly his ears are ringing (which is very loud wtf azzy), he gives him a hug, a gentle one, but a hug nonetheless, hoping its atleast a small comfort.
@Azrael
Azrael didn't react when Forgraves reached up to hug him. He felt the warmth of the fox against him, felt the tremble of the fox next to his body, but he didn't know how he was supposed to react to it. Because he'd never had a breakdown like this before. He'd always been a master at controlling the memories, stuffing down the fear of Her and how much he'd hated nearly half of his life, but the visions had been so real, he thought that it was all coming back for him.
He let out a long sigh, swallowing his pride (which had already crumbled a while ago) and forced out a small, gruff
He only raised his head a bit to look at Forgraves (but...he wasn't quite looking in his eyes. More at his shoulder then anything) when there was no longer any wetness on his cheeks, but his usually lustrous eyes seemed duller then normal.
Action.
he shrugged, staying where he was, leaning into Azzy's side.
he nodded at the request, but was confused.
@Azrael
Azrael hesitated for a second before he fully uncurled himself, sitting cross legged and reaching over, lifting Forgraves and setting him in his lap. He felt much more at ease, now, with the warmth of the fox on his legs and against his abdomen. He stared off into space for a moment.
He frowned, thinking about where to start. He didn't have any problems talking about Mother, he just wished that she would stop intruding on his life so much.
He growled deep in his chest.
Finally, he looked down at Forgraves.
Action.
He listened, mostly silently, his expressions doing most of his talking for him.
he thought as Azzy spoke. he described it in a way that to anyone would sound scary on its own, but paired with how violently he reacted under the hallucinogenic spores influence... Mother sounded like a terrifying thing to experience. not only to be caught in but to be ripped away from so suddenly like Azrael described it, and then faced with the possibility of it coming back.
he thought to what the dog had done, held his blood and body in place and controlled him for a moment, was that like mother? could mother do that but... to different extremes? it was scary to think about. imagining being controlled but not realizing you were being controlled at all..
he listened a bit further. to him, and the others being freed, to Mother being more or less stripped of most of her power. it was a pleasant thought, bad people getting their control stripped away, violent as he described it. now that he thought about it, actually...
@Azrael
Azrael had to think for a second. Had it been on the same day? There were two drastically different versions of himself in his mind. Azrael under Mother and Azrael after meeting Forgraves. Before he'd been a savage beast content to sell away his will for happiness. Now he was a force of power and a father to two, with responsibilities of his own and a stable, relatively peaceful life. The day he'd gone burning the rest of Mother's nodes and the day he'd met Forgraves stood out as two distinctly different times of his life, on opposite ends of the gap. But...they'd been the same day, hadn't they?
Yeah, he could remember now. Finding the young fox in a state of rage and hot flame and the distant smell of smoke. The anger of being released from Mother still blazing in his chest and fresh in his mind. He nodded and let out a grunt.
he hummed. "its weird to imagine so much happen before i existed..." he said thoughtfully. "it's weird imagining things were still... going. before me. because i havent been around that long but these caves have. its weird."
he stammered a correction, "i d-dont mean that as in... im super important or anything i just.. existential i guess."
