His mantra appeared to fall of deaf ears. At first she was startled and she stumbled, falling partway in to the mire, but upon recovery the wolf stared him down and outright refused - like a child. It was childish. And it was stupid. Did she really not take him seriously? He was a bundle of attitude and teeth, and she wasn't listening.
Ibrahim wasn't an unlawful sort of fellow; he had a code of conduct ingrained within himself that he thought was pretty common: the instinctual drive to be top dog was one such motivation. Being territorial over a spit of land made complete sense to him. To have this young gembound outright refuse to obey his order, not even bat an eye at his clearly threatening display, was infuriating.
He did what came naturally: he lunged for her, driving himself off of the giant roots that solidified his position, and tried to make his threat even clearer by snapping at her pale coat. Unfortunately she was a good distance away and even his high level of animosity could not fuel a great enough leap; hyenas were not meant for athleticism to begin with. He missed his mark and hit a root that grew haphazardly beside Comet's position.
His jaw hit first, forcing his mouth closed with a loud THWACK!
Pain radiated down his neck immediately and coiled in his chest. The rest of him went temporarily limp and he slouched against a heap of mud, his hindquarters sinking in to the swampy water as his body settled beside her. He'd essentially knocked himself out cold.
