FINAL, FEEL FREE TO EXIT!

Bevy listened to the chorus of yes from the Jury, and without a single nay, she turned to face Leon and Cancer. Pride swelled in her, eyes cold and calculating, as she looked from them, to Makyna, back to the convicts once more.

"The Jury has decided! Cancer, you are charged guilty of attempted murder. You are hereby banished from Pisces for four cycles. Get whatever you have left here and get out," she spoke calmly, clearly, loudly for all to hear. Her face expressionless-- having a beak was good for that-- she craned her head towards Leon.

"Leon, you are charged guilty of aggravated assault. You are hereby demoted to Runt. Until you prove yourself redeemed to Maji Walezi, you are stripped of your name and power." This was perfect. There was only one thing that could have made it better-- but no, this was fine. This was exactly what she needed. Now there was hardly anything stopping her. With Cancer gone--

With Cancer gone.

Cancer.

Like a switch was flicked, the bird spread her wings and took to the air. "Cancer!" She squawked, eyes wide-- no, wait, wait! "Wait!" The bird frantically flew over to the leopard, feathers flying everywhere in her wake. She crashed her tiny body into his chest, pressing into him-- ignoring the toxin in her feathers. She couldn't help it.

He was alive. She was so happy to see him, so happy-- but so sad. He was leaving. When would he come back? What if he never came back? She had never got to tell him... And now she could feel everyone's eyes on her back, watching this sudden change.

She just... She just couldn't let him leave without...

Nuzzling into his chest, she preened at his fur and made a whole huge big scene about it. "Cancer, I'm so sorry. I-- I'm going to miss you." She slipped off of the cat, staring up at him. If she had had more time, more chance to prepare... But she didn't.

Her gem glistened a bright, shimmering rainbow as her magic swelled in her chest. She hopped back once, lowering her beak to the gem. Her stomach was filled with butterflies as she gently touched her beak to her stone and the magic reacted, cleaving off a chunk of her stone. The gem was mostly red, and she caught it in her beak as it started to fall from her chest.

She held it up to him, eyes imploring. She wanted him to have this... This piece of her. Something so that he wouldn't forget Maji Walezi, their home.

"Don't forget us," she peeped softly, "I still love you."

With that, however, the trial was over. Calypso and Makyna had won, had found justice for the murderer. The story was over. The game was over.

murderers are not monsters,
they're men; and that's the most frightening
thing about them

Leon had waited, simmering in silence as the court buzzed with discussion. The jury was soon called it to make the decision, choosing an ultimate fate for both the bear and the leopard. In a perfect world, perhaps the two of them would have received just a slap on the wrist for their childish antics - after all, they were just dumb kids. But the truth was that Cancer had nearly killed Leon, and had it not been for that massive fissure, he would have. Likewise, Leon had started the attack, leaping in unexpectedly with the apparent intent to kill as well. It was hard to convince anybody that the bear wouldn't have truly killed Cancer; nobody else could get inside his head like Makyna. She was the only one that had really believed and sided with him.

It was Usui to suggest a punishment for the bear first, and turmoil and anger bubbled inside of him as he turned his attention to the lion. Leon knew he couldn't expect everybody to find him innocent, let alone be on his side at all - sure, it was universally agreed that Cancer should be punished for his acts, but Leon may have gotten out of this scott free had the leopard not tried to drag Leon down with him. His eyes narrowed slowly; fatigue, nervousness, and generally high emotions had caused the bear to become irritable especially when he was being put on the spot like this. He didn't want to lose his rank - again, the better part of his mind argued that he deserved it, especially after bailing only to come back and attack Cancer. But the better part of his mind was no more than a quiet voice of reason, once easily drowned out by the raging storm of emotions in his head and heart.

The jury murmured quietly amongst themselves before reaching a decision. They all agreed. Soon, Bevy piped up, accepting this decision. She announced Cancer's exile and Leon's fate - demotion. To runt. A low rumble build in his throat - he was upset, that much was clear, but he wasn't going to fight it. The bear snorted and instantly rose to his paws. He wasn't going to wait around to watch Cancer leave - out of the corner of his eye he'd seen Bevy flutter off to catch the cat before his departure, but Leon didn't care to witness it. He turned to Makyna, eyes low. "Lets get out of here." Leon huffed, pressing his shoulder against hers. He was done with this entire trial, and done with everybody that had gathered here with exception only of Makyna. The bear lumbered away, failing to cast another glance at anybody else. He just wanted to curl up in Makyna's den and sleep now.

Cancer waited in defeated and miserable silence as the Jury decided. Then, Bevy called the attention of the court again and he manged to lift his gaze enough to listen. Banished. As expected... but what came next, he hadn't expected at all. It wasn't forever. Four cycles. He'd be able to come back someday? Will I even want to? Do I even want to stay here now? He glanced at Leon as his own sentence was announced- demotion, to Runt. He would've found joy in this any other day- but today, Leon was just another victim of his insane ideas. This whole thing was crazy. It... it was fair though. He stood to leave, numbed, but was surprised to hear Bevy- Calypso?- call after him. He turned to look and got a chest-full of bird. For a second, he wanted to fling her off- those dangerous feathers she'd always been so wary about now tangling through his fur, irritating his skin. He didn't mind, he'd never minded, but the trained habit was there and he lifted a paw as if to do so, until...

Enna! He sat back on his hind legs to help hold her there, cupped in his paws like some precious jewel as she preened and rubbed against him. More tears. Gods, why the tears? He clenched his jaw and squeezed his eyes shut, shaking his head at her apologies- he understood. It wasn't her. It wasn't his Enna, or any of the other personalities in her tiny head that had hurt him. Not even Calypso's savage words had stung as much as Makyna's betrayal. Then, a gleam through the crack of his lids and he opened his eyes in time to watch her catch the red and green sliver of her stone.

For a moment, he was panic stricken again. Surely she was hurt now! Surely his poor Enna had wounded herself in the scuffle to get to him! Oh, but she held it to him, and he lifted a paw from her to take it. Careful, as if protecting something so fragile, a glance could break it, he slipped it between the webbing of his toes and held it tightly.

"...I'd never forget you, any of you." He bent to rest the bridge of his nose against her head, then shuffled backwards awkwardly to let her go and return one of two front paws to the ground. The other stayed up long enough to tuck the shard safely into his armor's pouch. Then, back-stepping, he smiled ever so sadly. "Love you, silly bird. Stay positive... and if you need me... just call. I'll hear you." His words were quick, pointed and softly spoken, before he turned to look at each and every one of his friends- those who stood by him, who defended him, Fisher, Amaria, Al-Addir, even Dark, all the rest that were gathered... and then, he turned and left behind the only home he'd ever known.

And his family with it.

Exit Cancer

The jury was hushed, talking among themselves but Makyna could still hear them. They, of course, thought Cancer as guilty but they wanted Leon to be guilty as well. She was aghast with horror. How could they? Leon had suffered greatly at the paws of Cancer. He'd almost been murdered! Could they not realize that? What was wrong with them? It was unfair that Leon should be punished as well! A growl rumbled in her chest at the sentence. Cancer should be banished for life! Not just four cycles and Leon shouldn't be punished at all!

She opened her mouth to say something but the bear was already nudging her away. It wasn't fair! It just wasn't fair! She watched as Bevy flew over to Cancer, rage was boiling in her gaze. Ugh... How could they? She cast one last look at the jury members, eyes lingering on Usui. How could he? It felt like a sharp betrayal from the lion... but there was nothing to do now. Makyna simply dipped her head and allowed herself to be lead away by Leon. They would go to her den and be together there... Still, the unfairness of it all stung her just as much as it stung him.

"Talking looks like this!"
"Thinking is this!"

So, it was done. The sentences were given... and he was bored. Those ledges looked awful interesting though. Perhaps he could practice his flying here? In any case he was certain Booker would want an escape from this tense atmosphere. "Think I'm gonna go take a break. Come on, Book, we can go swimming and then fly!" With that he smiled and made a beeline straight for the lagoon.

Thoughts

Booker shivered, taking in the chorus of yess with a wince. The bear, the leopard and the lioness all looked... well. Definitely not happy. The numbat tucked his face into Baratheon's short white fur, eye wide as he watched, sighing in relief when the dragon turned to leave, heading towards the waters of Pisces. "A b-break sounds good," he mumbled, stutter coming back from the tension in the air. With that, the two were off, and Booker steadfastly ignored the rest of the jury, curling up in a tiny ball between Baratheon's horns.

[ Exit Booker ]

It was time to go. Everyone was wandering off, but the bat stayed quite still, listening. Where was Dark? He wanted to talk to the owl, to share... But he hadn't heard the bird since the beginning, and now he felt quite empty.

He waited just a little while, clicking softly, trying to hear the rustle of feathers. He could hear the flighty, noisy flaps of the Judge of the Trial, but the quieter, softer feathers of the owl were missing in his ears.

Afraid to stick around where he wasn't welcome, the bat took off. He would return later, perhaps, to find the owl, but for now the tension was too strong in the air. It frightened him. He wanted to be far from all of this, just in case another fight broke out.

Tal'at Exit!

It's in the eyes!
I can tell, you will always be danger!
We had it tonight! Why do we always seek absolution?
All things had gone by quickly. It seemed all she could do was sit back and watch everything as the entire cave of Pisces was alive with chatter and sententious decisions. Her gaze lingered on Cancer for several moments before they turned away to continue watching the trial, only to go right back to him. She had delivered him to this. She was the reason he had to sit through this and take whatever decision the others made.

When his fate was finally decided her heart sank into her stomach and she suddenly felt very nauseous. Her rounded ears pinned back against her skull and she instantly rose to her paws. Her mouth opened to call for Cancer, but another had beat her to it. An expression of guilt and and a mix of other emotions quickly caught her expression and she sunk down to her rump as her head hung down. Her glistening eyes, beginning to fill with tears, watched the interaction between cancer and Bevy and soon after watched Cancer take his leave.

Her chest wrenched painfully while she attempted to ignore the guilt she felt for even convincing him to come back. At least had they staid in Orion he wouldn't have had to deal with facing a banishment. Even if it were only for four cycles. Amaria didn't look to anyone else as she turned and slunk off into the shadows, not quite sure what she wanted to do with herself. She wanted to apologize to cancer. She wanted to go talk to Leon but she knew all her brother wanted was Makyna at the moment and she would just be in their way. Perhaps she would follow Cancer, but would be really want to see her right now. Or have any company at all right after being exiled from his home? She didn't know what to do, so with a sigh she made her way up to her claimed perch and would stay there unt she decided.
