Predictably, Leviathan was not in his den. Instead, he was in the shallows of the water, his body curled up underneath it with just the top of his head poking out. His eyes were closed, because they were otherwise level with the water and he didn't have a second pair of eyelids, but mostly this was just so his nose could be above water. The top ridge of his head was visible, too, and some of his horns, but Comet was not facing the water so it made sense that she hadn't noticed him.
Upon hearing his name, he pushed himself up so his head poked up fully (which was rather easy, considering he was underwater and therefore weighed less).
"Here," he called, starting to emerge from the water to face her. He didn't bother adding more words; he was sure she'd tell him why she was here in a minute.
@comet
Leviathan grinned at that, half-curling himself like a crescent and letting all his fur and wings puff up.
"Like a leviathan?" In the little hybrid's mind, it was silly for Comet to point such a thing out. Of
course there were dangerous things lurking in the water -- he'd literally
just been there. At the edge of his tongue he felt a flippant addition, but it didn't quite ring right. Adding
little sister onto the end would have fixed it, but-- well, Leviathan did not form attachments quickly. Comet was... not an interloper, or an intruder, but certainly not family. Not yet, anyway. Only Mama held
that title.
His little claws flexed at her offer, but he didn't just maul her. Mama probably would have gotten upset about that -- and the winged thing might've thrown a temper tantrum, which would have been awfully funny, but would have upset Mama even more.
"Amenable," he agreed, one of his round ears flicking out. Levi didn't bother asking for no blood -- she was covered in two or three layers of thick fur, and he had his armor to protect him. Unless they were trying to kill each other, blood wouldn't be an issue.
And really, was a battle interesting without it?
"Allez," he said simply. If she didn't act, he would.
@comet
"Haha! You certainly are!" Comet brushed past the topic of the huge octopus that Leviathan would stand literally no chance against. A small part of her said that as long as it wasn't mentioned, it wouldn't happen.
"Allez?" the pup had no idea what that meant, but you could never be too careful. So, she tried forming a shield in front of her. In case the sparring had started she would be safe.
@Leviathan
Round: 1
Attempt: Form shield
Defense: Shield of the Seven
Injuries: None
Now, Leviathan was many things -- but
perceptive was certainly one of them. His eyes were designed to detect the slightest shift of movement in the water, to identify anything amiss, to make the distinction between light reflecting water and the flash of a fish's scales underneath it. So he
saw the vague shimmering of Shield of the Seven -- and perhaps a wiser creature, or one who thought less of himself, might have paused and regarded the magic of a staggeringly powerful mage with more caution.
But he was perceptive, not wise, and certainly not humble, so he lunged at Comet like a snake poised to strike, forgetting (or maybe not caring) to sheathe his claws in the process.
@comet
Round: 1
Attempt: Scratch Comet! (and probably fail bc of that spell)
Defense: Armor plates
Injuries: None
Predictably (and comically), Leviathan hit the shield hard and bounced off, skidding to the ground a couple of feet away. He shook himself out as the rain started, and eyed Comet suspiciously. Ice magic was her forté, wasn't it? Well, luckily for him, 'slippery' wasn't really a problem. All four of his feet had claws on the ends, and the back ones, well -- those were permanent.
He lunged again, this time trying to snap his beak at Comet -- if he ended up getting the bottom of her neck, he'd bite full force because he knew he couldn't break through that fur and skin, but if he hit anywhere else he'd try to hold his blow. Pinch her, but not hurt her. Too badly.
Round: 2
Attempt: Bite her!
Defense: Armor plates
Injuries: Bruised ego :(
@comet
Comet had learned by now that Leviathan didn't use magic when fighting. He was probably going to use more physical moves instead. So it wasn't a surprise when he lunged at her again. Well, this was what the rain had been for.
She tried freezing the water on Leviathan to try and stop him from moving, but her magic failed, and she was left standing there.
@Leviathan
Round: 3
Attempt: Freeze Leviathan
Defense: None
Injuries: None
His beak made contact, pinching thick skin and fur between it, and then he was unsheathing his claws to try and wrap his front legs around her and grapple at her shoulders. He was below her mouth, firmly on purpose, and his wings were flapping violently behind him -- hopefully it would disorient her, but mostly it was just an instinct with regard to his now topsy-turvy balance.
Instead, his claws struggled to get traction in her fur -- he was slipping, due to the wetness and the thickness of her undercoat, and his little tail lashed violently behind him.
Round: 3
Attempt: Get claws in her shoulders -- hang on!!
Defense: Armor plates, below her mouth
Injuries: None
