ORIGIN - The Fluff Can't Fly Yet.

A soft purr left the little griffin like creature as Renny nuzzled her, she in turn sat up straighter and pressed her head into the nuzzle. She was happy to be getting to know Renny, perhaps it was that she was the first of the children he had seen since he had come back. She wondered if he had seen Sun yet. But she quickly pushed that thought aside hoping secretly that she was the first one he had come to upon arriving. Was she beginning to find an attachment to Renny? She wasn’t sure, but if it felt this nice. Perhaps it would be alright to get close to him.

As Renny said that she and everyone else could decorate the new home her eyes widened and she looked up at him almost beaming. She couldn’t wait to figure out how to make colors like flowers and nature, and draw on the skins. But then it hit her, she didn’t even know how to make the colors to paint with.

As Renny explained that he had plenty of pelts at his home in pegasus, she seemed to droop just a little. ”But daddy got these. Can we at least take a few of them?” The girl asked sweetly a sadly innocent tone to her voice. She had an attachment to the pelts and skins here, Not only were they her first bed, but they had been caught cleaned and made nice for sleeping on by daddy. ”We could even use some of them to make bags and stuff. Daddy told Sun the way his Aunty made his bag and we could have him make us some more to carry things from here to there.” The girl suggested eagerly. Abraxas purred as Renny nuzzled her again, and again she pressed into the nuzzle.

Abraxas backed up a bit falling back onto all fours, as she looked up at Renny. She was really glad he was okay now and that he had just been put into his chrysalis, and hadn’t ended up like daddy. That would have been very bad if had just died like daddy had, that was why daddy wasn’t here. She didn’t quite comprehend death just yet, but she knew it meant that you weren’t here anymore.

Then Renny was talking about something new. Decorating already! He knew how to make colors! She let out a happy little squeal as she bounced around in a circle. ”Alright! Let’s go see if we can find some stuff!” Abraxas chided eagerly.

"Oh, no," James said, pushing himself to stand, "I didn't say we couldn't! We do need plenty of furs to decorate and to make the bed bigger for all of us. We'll need as many as we can bring."

He shook himself out and kicked out a leg, a few stray feathers falling off. He trotted to the doorway of the house and perked his ears forward, wings spreading. He jumped forward and slowly spiraled down to the ground, looking up at Abraxas expectantly.

"We're looking for red berries and gemstones, empty ones. Any colors you can find, and feathers too!", he said, "The more colors, the better."

James trotted off happily, at a slow pace so that Abraxas could catch up, his ears perked forward and tail swishing behind him. He was just so excited to go on a little adventure with the hatchling, and his prancing definitely showed that.

Abraxas tilted her head to one side as she watched Renny stand up. She backed up a step or two as he did so she wasn’t as close to his legs when he stood up, and so she could look up at him easier. He was saying that they could actually take the pelts. She perked up quite a bit her brows raising in excitement. ”I know the perfect ones to paint and hang up, and the perfect fluffiest ones for the bed! I can help do that when we move! I can help arrange the new bed!” The young girl cried excitedly prancing in place.

Abraxas watched as he shook himself out and the few feathers that fell free of him and fluttered to the ground. Curiously she walked up to the feathers and batted at them with a paw for a second. As she batted at the feather it flutter up off the ground and she chomped at catching it in her tooth filled beak. She looked up at Renny with a smile and darted over to her once chrysalis and tucked the feather away inside the open chrysalis as if it were a treasure chest.

Abraxas watched as Renny pranced forward and fluttered down off the balcony. She trotted forward after him and looked down. The fall wasn’t exactly far but it wasn’t short either, so rather than jumping. The girl moved over to the edge of the balcony near the wall and climbed out onto the wall before slowly backing her way down the vine covered wall. Reaching about three feet off the ground the girl jumped down and trotted up beside Renny and grinned.

”Oh we’ll need something to carry it in!” Abraxas spoke up brightly and ran inside returning with a small bag made of a single rabbit skin and strung around her neck and shoulder. The strap was long enough for the bag to drag the ground as she held the strap in her beak. She dropped the strap in front of Renny. ”Here it’s too big for me, think you can carry it?” She asked brightly looking up Renny her eyes glimmering eagerly.

Happily the little griffin like creature trotted along side the horse, however as they left the clearing and entered the more forested area Abraxas broke off for a second sticking her head into the underbrush. She wiggled in up to her wings and looked around, here she found four white berries on a bush. Quickly the girl picked them with a nimble forepaw and held them in her other. Next she wiggled her way out of the bush and looked up at Renny beaming. She lifted her paw revealing the four white berries in her paw. ”Are these some of what we’re looking for?” She asked hopefully.

James picked up the bag and looped it around his neck, following Abraxas, "Of course you can make the bed. It's in a sort of bowl shape, it's more comfortable to drape my wings over the edges, so we'll have to stick to that design."

He followed behind her, also searching for berries, "Oh! Those work."

He held open the bag for her to drop them in before moving forward a bit, searching through bushes for different colored berries. He only got a thorn in his nose, though. He brushed it off on a tree and continued forward, peering up and snatching peaches off of a branch instead. At least they were plentiful.

"Oh, that's right," he said, "These stain things yellow and orange."

And maybe he could make treats with them, too!

Abraxas trotted along trying to imagine the shape of the bed he was speaking of. It wasn’t hard after all she had dug holes before. So keeping to that design shouldn’t be too much trouble in the end. She nodded eagerly, her golden eyes blazing with excitement. ”I think I can do that.” She affirmed with another thoughtful nod this time to herself.

Renny seemed to have stopped behind her as she heard him stop moving as she dove head first into the bush. When she reemerged from the bush of wonders with her new prize she tried to smile but it only happened to her eyes. As Renny leaned down with the bag open she happily dropped them inside and gave an eager wiggle. She had done well, she had found some ingredients right off on their short little trek.

Trotting along Abraxas kept a sharp eye out for anything that Renny had mentioned. As they walked Abraxas caught sight of something wiggling ahead in the path. Filled with eager curiosity the girl bound ahead and pounced on the thing wiggling in the path. As she opened her paws she found it to be two orange feathers. Gripping them in one dexterous forepaw she held them up and beamed at Renny. ”What do you think about these, can we use these?” She asked eagerly, holding them up to Renny to inspect.

James cooed, perking his ears up as he peered at the feathers, "Oh! Perfect!"

He opened up the bag and opened his own wings, peering at them, "We can crush up my feathers too, they're dark enough, and the brighter ones and the white ones should be useful too!"

He nuzzled Abraxas gently and smiled gently before lifting his head again and moving forward. He picked a branch of leaves off of a bush and stuck them in his bag. Now they had white, green, orange, yellow... they just needed red, blue, and purple now.

"Abraxas," he said, "Go hunting for blueberries, and stay away from the black ones with bones around the base of the bush. Those berries are extremely toxic, okay? Toxic means that if you eat them, they can kill you."

There was no being blunt when it came to Evil Eyes. Any lesser that was stupid enough to eat them rapidly fell ill and died, feeding the plant and allowing it to grow bigger and faster than the others around it. Efficient... but deadly.

Abraxas chirped happily in response as Renny cooed at the feathers. She was pleased that he approved and her rounded ears perked eagerly. She had done well again in finding these two new orange feathers. She was quite proud of them to be honest they were actually fairly pretty. As Renny opened up his wings and peered at them, she slipped the feathers into the bag. She listened as he explained about his own feathers. ”But your feathers are so pretty, are you sure you want to pull them out?” She mused glancing at her own now currently dull tan feathers. She wondered if she would ever be as beautiful as Renny.

As Renny leaned down to nuzzle her, she in turn lifted her forepaws up off the ground a bit and nuzzled the horse back gently as she let out a soft sweet purr. She wasn’t sure what she was feeling for Renny but she knew she liked being around him. She felt that she would be sad if he had been killed rather than gone into his chrysalis. Her golden eyes shone softly with adoration for the horse as they continued on their way down the path.

Rounded ears twitched as they caught Renny’s voice saying her name, and she began listening closely. She looked up at Renny listening carefully to him and nodded brightly. ”Blue berries, stay away from the black with bones.” She repeated to herself before she split off from Renny and darted down a side path she had found. Her sharp eyes keeping a lookout for anything round and blue, but her golden eyes were failing to find anything this early on the path.

"Feathers fall out naturally," he explained, "Sometimes they fall out so new, warmer ones can grow in, like when it gets cold, or when a feather gets damaged or worn. Then it falls out and can be replaced with a new one. So I can use the ones that fall out for our dyes."

James followed along behind Abraxas, watching her search, his eyes occasionally flicking back and forth too to look for the blue berries. He found none, but that was okay. Their little journey was much more exciting.

"You'll have feathers like mine when you're grown," he said, "I can even teach you how to fly! Then we can fly together, too."

He looked forward to it. Flying was wonderful, but flying with a friend? Even better.

Abraxas’ round ears shifted back listening to Renny as he explained about his feathers falling out. She paused in her steps for a moment, she stretched out her own wing for a moment, it looked nothing like Renny’s wings, rather it was dull tan and nothing but fluff. They were nothing compared to the elegance of Renny’s wings. She wondered if one day the fluffy feathers would fall out and if they would be replaced by something prettier. However she didn’t voice these thoughts simply hoping deep down that some day she would have much prettier feathers.

Abraxas perked up as Renny mentioned that someday she would have beautiful feathers like him, that someday she could even use her currently useless wings to actually fly. This seemed to excite her as she half turned and kept walking to look back at Renny and still keep going. ”You really think I’ll have pretty feathers? I can’t wait to see them!” She chirped happily looking at him with shimmering hopeful eyes. She was absolutely over the moon at the thought of being able to fly and do something special with Renny, to do what he did with his wings.

Abraxas turned back around once again leading the way down the side path, bright golden eyes looked this way and that as they searched for anything that could possibly be a blueberry. Just as she turned back around the little griffin-like creature’s sharp eyes caught a flash of something and she jumped darting over to a nearby bush. There she found more than a hand full of brilliant blueberries. Bouncing she turned and grinned at Renny. Lifting a paw she folded her digits to point at the berries. ”Will these work?” Abraxas asked her voice dripping with eagerness and pure enjoyment of spending time with Renny one on one for the first time.

"Oh, dear...", he said softly, bumping her gently, "You already do. They may be small, but they're so cute and soft... I love them so much, you know."

James watched her pad off, ears perked up, "Aha! Those are the ones!"

He trotted forward and lowered his head so she could put them in, and counted the colors, "Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, white, and black! Excellent, we have everything."

He nuzzled her sweetly and flicked his tail, "Why don't we head back, Abraxas? You lead the way."

James turned and headed back, head turned to make sure she was following, slowing so she could pull ahead. He already loved this sweet little creature with all his heart.
