Haven crashed into the shallows, leaving a long rut in the sand and silt, her head resting on the shore while the rest of her was submerged in blessedly cold water. A whine rose into being and she dunked her head under too, her nostrils closing and her gills opening instead, allowing her to breathe even so.
One thing was for certain... she hated fire. Hated fire and big stupid dragons who couldn't share caves so large that fifty dragons could live there comfortably.
But her spell failed and she just lay there, her burns stinging in the open air, every movement and stretch of her skin aching and pulling, and it was all she could do to breathe. If she could cry, she would be, but she didn't even dare sob lest her wound erupt into agony again. She'd have to watch them and make sure they didn't get infected, if she managed to stave off her chrysalis long enough.
Though, sleeping for a while sounded alright. It's not like her mate would worry where she'd gone, being asleep in his own.
No she wasn't bitter.
@Dread
The sea-birds knew she'd snap at them if they came near, as they'd quickly learned she did not like being used as a perch when she basked in the sun on the beach. If they were lucky, she'd leave a kill for them to fight over, but she didn't appreciate them coming too close to her.
A few mingled nearby, but they didn't dare come close, fearing her jaws. Good.
"Come on," she growled, sucking in a breath, "Get up."
If she could make it to her den, she'd be relatively safe. She could rest up and try and heal herself, and that would be that. She'd worry about the dragon when she wasn't out in the open and exposed.
She moved one claw, drawing her magic in all the way to just try and take the edge off, her wounds stinging a little less and her limbs no longer numb. She got her hind legs under her, then her front ones, pushing herself up into a standing position. She panted softly, a headache building, and took a step forward, tail dragging in the sand.
Haven took another step forward, hissing softly as she forced herself to keep going, walking towards her den with her head held low with shame and pain.
Just a kilometre to go and then a short climb up a sheer cliff to climb. Easy peasy.
@Dread
Haven dragged herself forward another step, wounds cauterized by her own skin melting together. There would be severe damage, for sure. She dragged herself forward and stopped again, staring up the cliff face to her den. She doubted she'd be able to get up there without flying, but she didn't know if she could.
Here goes nothing.
Haven lifted her wings and flapped once, crying out in pain as muscles and skin strained, wheezing as she fell to the sand again, curling up. If she could see, her vision would be spotting, but she refused to give up.
A set of claws slammed into the cliff face, a growl welling up as she pulled herself up, gasping and crying, every movement agony. But she'd be safe and could lick her wounds once she was in her den, and she had to keep that hope alive.
@Dread
Haven growled and turned her head in the direction of the other dragon, her top half resting on the cliff face. She grumbled and got her hind legs under her, preparing for the long climb ahead.
"Come to Leo, we'll get together, have a few laughs...", she grumbled to herself, shakily lifting an arm to cling to a higher hold, managing to cling to the cliff without any support from her back legs.
She finally roared back, more than a little grumpy, "Of course I am!! You think some fire can kill me?"
Man did she wish he'd chrysalized her though, just a little bit. It hurt to do anything at the moment.
She rolled her shoulders and grit her teeth, drawing her magic in to heal what she could. Her headache went away and the burns didn't sting so badly, and she managed to start scaling the cliff, growing more confident with every step up the sheer face.
"Just go back to your cave or whatever!", she yelled, sick and tired of this stupid dragon hanging out much too close to her den.
@Dread
"I don't see your NAME ON IT!!", she snarled back, and clung to the edge of her den, hanging there for a moment, her head thunking against the rock.
She was so done. Just with everything.
But she inhaled and healed one last time, pulling herself into her nest, her wounds not aching as bad, and tumbled onto her side with a groan. Safe at last...
She poked her head out and roared, "You're an asshole! Look at you, attacking a blind dragon for no reason! Have you no pride? No honor? You're a pathetic excuse for a dragon!!!"
Yeah, she was going for low blows, but she didn't really care.
"Good luck getting a mate with your shitty attitude!!", she yelled, and stomped off (painfully) further into her den, sulking near the back where a chrysalis was, thunking her head against it.
Maybe she should move. This den wasn't a home anymore.
