Appearance

This Gembound most resembled what might be called a Cockatrice. Some three and a half feet tall at the shoulder, but quite lightweight at only around fifty pounds, this Gembound is fiercely intense, with incredibly fast reflexes and agility, and high speed in short bursts. Its body is mostly covered in feathers, providing it protection from cold, but its feet, wings and long tail are bare--though these can mostly be tucked against the body for warmth. The wings can be spread to easily dissipate heat. This Cockatrice is capable of both fast, short flights and longer, slower, soaring flight, and the spade-tipped tail can cut and puncture opponents in combat, as can the spurs at the back of its feet. Its voice is very loud and grating. It is omnivorous, eating most things it can get a hold of--anything from plants and grain to insects and meat. Its eyesight is very good, but its sense of smell is extremely poor. The gemstone is an Eye Agate situated on the inside of the right wing, near to its base. Extremely expressive and dynamic, this Gembound is typically a blur of movement. They speak with their entire body, which usually means its a good idea to stand a few feet back unless you want to get sliced by their flipping and flicking razor sharp tail.

Personality

This Gembound is fiery, fierce and intensely energetic. With a loud, squawking voice that demands to be heard, it's hard not to blow them off as an airhead with no idea what they're talking about. Whether through arrogance or ignorance, the Cockatrice doesn't seem to care if anyone thinks they're an idiot, because at the end of the day, they know what's what. They're happy to have other gems underestimate them, and unfortunately they do the same to those who have yet to prove themselves. To those who have already succeeded in the trial, they expect the utmost. While those who are new to the Hydra are of no interest to this Gembound, those who have proven themselves are keenly watched by the noisy bird. Tentative allegiances may be forged, who knows. They do a lot of talking without a lot of substance behind their words, and come across as fairly superficial. However, beneath their cocky, loud exterior is a keen and calculating mind with a tendency toward flocking, and once the games begin, their true personality will sneak through the cracks for those who watch them closely and treat them with respect. As far as this Gem is concerned, the competitors make the rules, and they're more than willing to forge the real purpose of this "game".
