Appearance

Amazon is a small armadillo lizard with a dusty golden hide. Her scales are all thorn-like in appearance, but not very sharp. They are quite rough, however, and could cause damage if hit with force. Her tail has the most spiked scales and could be used as a fairly dangerous weapon or defense mechanism. Her back is covered with duller brown-gray scales that aren't as spiky or thorny, but rather tough, almost like small plates of armor. She has a number of markings of orange, black, and ivory across her body and many of her thorns look as if they were made of bone. Amazon is a very quick little lizard, with tiny claws that are excellent for gripping and not so good for fighting. Her natural camouflage and her curl-defense is all she really needs to avoid a fight.

Amazon's gemstone is vandenbrandeite and sticks out from her skull in a little backwards horn. Aside from being a mouthful of a name, it is a highly radioactive material. While this doesn't show its effects for most of her life, being a part of her and containing her magic, its effects will eventually come through sometime in her life. The crystal itself has a faint glow to it, a color that is also present in her eyes, although much more dull. As her life goes on, the glow will become stronger, due to the decay in the uranium present in the crystal.

After the Trial of Hydra, Amazon now has a mutation around the base of her gem - instead of brown sandy scales there will instead of a hard, spongy black tissue, similar to that of a bug, with fine around around the base. Along with this small change, she is now completely resistant to low-levels of radiation, enough to keep her immune to the radioactivity of her own gemstone. For some reason, she now sometimes, quite randomly, has violent cravings to eat any larva-type creature she comes across.

At the beginning of her life, Amazon is filled with wonder, excitement, and enthusiasm just for the simple fact of being alive. Everything is a new adventure, something to be excited about. She loves to interact with other gembounds and sometimes gets so excited that she won't really notice if they want to speak to her. She wants to learn and to grow - she has a thirst for knowledge and trust. However, she may find those that stay away because of the hazardous gem on her head. This will cause her to become confused and nervous that she is doing something wrong. At first, she won't realize that its something physically wrong with her that it chasing these away and would become insecure about herself.

Either way, as she ages and her body begins to fight back against the radiation, she will realize that her days are numbered. She'll become reserved, shy, and almost scared of the world. Her coming death will consume her thoughts and she won't be able to escape the fear of being a burden on everyone. Self-resentment will create distance between herself and others, but also make her want to push herself closer for comfort. It's a contradiction that will drive her insane with need and could cause her to dissolve into tears far too easily.

Once the cancer sets in, as is inevitable with a chunk of uranium on the back of her head, her life will fly back to motion. She will push past the pain, push away the depression, and spend the last cycle or two of her life doing everything she can. The spirit of her youth will return and she will spend the last of her life learning, excited, and always filled with wonder, no matter what path her life takes beforehand.
