Appearance

At first glance, most would assume Artume is a male, once she has grown. She is extremely tall, standing forty eight inches at her shoulder, with her neck, head, and antlers adding further height on that. From nose to tail, she is seventy-two inches in length, with a rather large tail. She has a strong, yet oddly fine build, with rippling muscles that make her seem rather intimidating. Her hooves are large, and dangerous looking, glistening like obsidian. However, her front left hoof is different, with an odd, diamond-like shape. It is her gem, a bright, gleaming emerald. Her fur is black as pitch, gleaming like a raven's feathers. She has broad, sprawling black antlers that any hunter would die to mount, and they only rarely shed. Her eyes match her hoof, standing out eerily, being a bright, almost neon, green in color.

As a newborn Gemling, however, she looks nothing like that. She is tiny, even smaller than the smallest deer fawn, and almost sickly looking, with knobby legs and a frail frame. Her fur is a dull grey in color, like flint, and her eyes are a pale, plain green. There are no signs of her antlers, and her gem is tiny and misshapen, causing her trouble when walking, a frail looking green color, looking like it might shatter at the slightest hit.

As she grows, her fur darkens into a gleaming steel grey color, and her horns begin to bulge out from her head. Velvet that is a few shades darker than her fur covers what horns she does have. Her gem-hoof begins to brighten, becoming a shinier color, and as she walks it buffs, becoming a true gem. Her frame begins to fill out, although she isn't as muscular as she will be as a full-grown stag.

Personality

Despite being absolutely tiny as a fawn, Artume acts as though she is already as large as she will be as an adult. She is nearly fearless, squaring off to both predators and the many Gembounds that are larger than her. As though she knows she will have horns as an adult, she often attacks head first, charging at her opponent with her head low and forehead forward.

Artume is very big on justice, and keeping things fair. She will step in to stop as many fights as she can or, if the aggressor won't stop, will step in and take the place of the victim, whether it is to talk the aggressor down, or to fight them into submission. Often, these fights end up with her losing, considering how small she is, but she simply puts her small size to good use, attempting to wear out her opponent.

As she grows, however, she naturally becomes much stronger. Her fights become less 'run-away-and-try-to-distract-them' and more 'use-her-size-and-strength-to-beat-them-into-submission'.

Despite seeming rather large and intimidating, Artume is actually soft and gentle-hearted. She loves nothing more than to find newly hatched Gemlings, and take them under her wings, helping them learn how things work, and protecting them until they can do so themselves.
