Appearance

A pretty creature, but difficult to define. Some three feet tall at the shoulder and weighing less than a hundred pounds, she is not particularly large, nor is she small. Her body appears to be that of a typical mammal in terms of build, but her head, long-feathered tail, and two sets of wings are all distinctly avian. Her hind legs are cloven-hooved, her forelimbs a magpie's black: scaled and taloned. Her neck is arched, a gracefully-muscled hybrid of bird and moose. Her face features the distinctive white patch of a Canada goose, but the sharp, black beak of a magpie. Her tail is a long, trailing splay of feathers. Her smaller size renders her a capable flyer, agile and swift.

She is splashed with various colors over her body: the iridescent black of a magpie features, primarily, and shimmers blue in most any light, from deep, rich cobalts to bright turquiose, edging in places on emerald green. Her hind feet and shoulders are patched with white, and white rims the edges of her upper wings.

A short, stiff but soft mane of fur-like feathers juts out along the back of her neck, and a small, black pair of bull moose-like antlers crowns her head to either side of the glittering, deep blue sapphire "circlet" formed by her gemstone. Her large eyes match this stone, perhaps her most striking feature.

Note: Azure's white does not extend quite as high on her hind legs nor touch her belly as indicated in the outdated profile pic.

Personality

Azure is kind, attentive, but anxious. She is brash, highly humorous in a rather cynical fashion, and open: honest with her words and prone to heavy swearing... yet if closely-examined, this seems to stem from a lack of hope for any good outcomes, and instead a constant expectation of disaster which she faces with this "humor."

She often holds a tension in her posture that gives away the presence of a constant, low-grade fear born of prior trauma. She does not trust easily, and can be quite wary around strangers and new situations. While she can be a little jumpy, she isn't a cowardly Gembound: she's not a hero or bold warrior, but she is strong enough to face confrontation. She will, however, readily flee a situation if she's in danger, so long as it doesn't mean leaving friends behind. And she is loyal: she tends to cling to those who are kind to her, quietly and uncertainly but with as much support as she can muster.

Azure also fights to be less self-centered, trying to be aware of the feelings of others she may be speaking to, attentive to their thoughts and emotions. She was not taught to be sympathetic, and so she has to genuinely focus on improving that aspect of herself, often having to walk herself through listening or putting herself in someone else's shoes.

With the help of her "adopted sister"/best friend Dip (aka Siren, Serendipity, etc.), Azure has gained some sense of normalcy. Her anxiety lingers, but the desire to be supportive to a friend has helped her focus on something other than herself. A creative vein has shown itself in Azure: she uses telekinesis, bauble, gem summon and preserve to create jewelry and decorations out of cords, light, gemstones and flowers. This seems to have a strong impact on her emotional well-being: the ability to create seems to be her rebellion against having been raised only to destroy.

History

This character was adopted to Dark in early January 2019. Azure spent most of her life as Cloudberry, born into a group of liars and killers, savage even amongst themselves. She grew and developed never feeling quite right; she was always taught that killing and sadism were normal. Everything always felt surreal to her, her instinct telling her that none of it was quite right, but experience telling her otherwise. This disconnect made her doubt herself, and she stifled her own emotions, generally silent and lingering in the background, always feeling like she didn't quite belong, and as if nothing was quite real. She always wondered, too, what exactly was wrong with her.

After the destruction of her family (some dead, and the rest scattered), Azure lived alone. She's turned a little cynical, but also come to terms with her own emotions--at least, their existence. She no longer stifles their expression, though confusion, bitterness and grim humor now form most of her feelings. Most of the cave probably wants her dead, in her mind, and so she's better off hiding, living out the rest of her life in solitary emptiness.

After being attacked during her seclusive existence by the dragon Asimona, she entered her sapphire chrysalis, to emerge in this new form. Where once was a soft, undefined face, there is now a hard, sharp beak; where once Azure had only one pair of hooved legs, she now has a second, birdlike pair at the front. Myriad other tiny changes have occurred, and the hybrid will need to come to terms with this, now, too--and the fact that even becoming a hermit cannot save her.
