Appearance
Bayard looks about as common as his species’ name suggests. He is a raven, who looks like all other ravens, really. He is relatively large (as compared to a crow, his smaller cousin, or other smaller birds). He has black, beady eyes. He has a smooth black beak. His feathers do make him look somewhat majestic. They are glossy and black, smooth like oiled silk, and they look as if they ripple in the right light, with the right movement. Sometimes they look so black that they seem to turn a deep blue or purple. Bayard’s only difference in color is his Stone.

A small, relatively flat piece of Lapis Lazuli sits atop his beak. Whereas most ravens have a small tuft of feathers that almost look like fur jutting out over part of their beak, this feature on Bayard is replaced by his Stone. It is a beautiful royal-blue, flecked with gold, and the flecks shimmer in the light.

Bayard takes good care of his body. He eats well and maintains a varied diet, so he looks and is quite healthy. He is a strong flier, and can be quick when he wants to be, though he will never be quite as fast or as graceful as, say, an eagle. Still, when seen from below, gliding through the tunnels, he looks very handsome.
Personality
Scholar. Bayard is, first and foremost, a scholar. He wants to know about everything and everywhere and everyone. But he is also extremely good at zeroing in on things when he’s interested in them, so he can come off as very standoffish and rude if you catch him in the middle of studying something. He doesn’t mean to be rude, or to ignore you. He’s just very methodical. He wants to know about everything – one thing at a time. And unless you have a really good idea about how to study something more closely than he is already, all of your words sort of go right past him. He’s sorry.

Mage. The raven is also obsessed with all things Magical. In fact, his being a Scholar has a lot to do with his fascination about Magic. He performs his own Magic at every chance he gets, even if the way he uses it doesn’t really make any sense. He’ll often cast spells even if he doesn’t need them at all, just to experience casting them. He is constantly attempting to better himself when it comes to his Pressure Magic, and when he gets older, he will branch out into other Magic types, in an attempt to master them all.

Health-Conscious. Bayard realizes that in order to keep his mind and Magic sharp, he needs to be healthy. That means getting enough sleep and eating properly. His diet is varied, and he will eat anything from mice and lizards to fruit and grain (assuming there’s even any grain in the caves?) Usually, ravens are most known for eating carrion, but carrion is rather hard to come by in Origin Cave, which has forced him to learn to hunt live prey and scavenge for fruit more often than he would if he were somewhere else. (He obviously has no knowledge of this – all he knows is the Cave).

Organized. Perhaps on the verge of being OCPD (Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder, which is different than OCD), Bayard is extremely organized and has a strict schedule that he follows during the day. The schedule varies daily. Mostly he just forces himself to eat and sleep at very specific times, namely after casting multiple spells in a short period of time. This goes back to him being health-conscious. He moves from place to place, traveling all throughout the Origin Cave to study its geography and inhabitants, and is very structured about how he goes about studying a new area.

Bayard, despite being so obsessed with learning and magic, is also quite friendly – if you catch him at the right time. Part of learning things means talking to others, and he finds other Gembound just as fascinating as any other part of the Cave that he studies. He likes making friends, though some may find his constant questions annoying. He’s sort of… an acquired taste. If you don’t mind his quirkiness and his constant need to study everything around him at the expense of accidentally ignoring you, then he’ll be your best friend. He protects those he cares about as best he can, using his knowledge about many topics to his advantage if it comes to a fight. He may be small, but he can be quite formidable when he wants to be.
