Appearance
Chou, at birth, is an ugly, cream-coloured lump of fluff. He has small, pinprick-like feathers and long, twiggy pink legs, and the inability to fly which will never quite leave him as he grows. Stumbling, bumbling, and never sure quite where to go, this young one will stick to those he knows and loves like glue.
Slowly but surely, however, Chou will grow into quite the elegant creature- bit by bit, his creamy feathers will bloom into pure, snowy white and his gangly lankiness will become an elegance akin to a ballerina. His tail feathers will lengthen, and in his prime will be around 5 feet long, flowing behind him like the train of a wedding dress. Whilst he will usually be pristine and white as a dove, this peacock is blind from birth, and you may find that his pristine feathers end up grimy or green. His eyes, whilst clouded from birth and seeming to lack a pupil, are blue as the sky and scattered with flecks of pink like flower petals falling. His gem rests upon his chest, visible to the naked eye, and takes the appearance of an organic heart as though carved by a skilled crafter. As Chou grows older, he will begin to adore the experience of giving life to plants through his own body, and will grow a pair of 'antlers' consisting of thick stems covered in flowers, emerging from each of his brows. Personality
Chou will have no knowledge of external beauty, despite his species being known for elegance and royalty. He judges others instead on how they speak, how they treat him, and so on. This peacock is incredibly trusting, believing firmly in the philosophy that there is no true evil in the world, only misunderstanding. He doesn't quite understand sarcasm and lies, even obvious ones, will fly right over his head.
In this respect, he can be seen as incredibly naive and childish, although he does not often indulge in play due to his blindness. His condition is something he takes wholly within his stride however; as he has been blind from birth, he knows nothing of what could have been and as a result, has adapted accordingly. Chou can see the bright side of anything, and tries to be happy and bright no matter what. That being said however, this peacock is highly sensitive to the emotions of others. Even the slightest change in voice can set off his sad-sensors and trigger snuggle mode. Chou is prone to experiencing high levels of emotion himself. Although he is rarely sad or upset, when the rare emotion does strike, he may completely break down and very much relies on others to bring him back to his usual self. And in a similar way, he is prone to falling head-over-heels over others. The peacock may offer little gifts of flowers or rocks to others in these cases, or act like a worried mother trying to make sure they're always safe, but his antics are sure to bring a smile to your face.
