Appearance

Dewberry is a medium-sized snake, around 36 inches in length. Her gem is a light blue larimar on the left side of her face, and may be mistaken for just another blue scale from far away. Its shape and position can make it look like a turquoise tear about to fall, as it is located slightly behind and below her eye.

Perhaps the most striking thing about her is Dewberry's bright coloring. Her head is a burnt orange color, her underbelly turquoise blue. Where her head ends and the rest of her body begins, a turquoise stripe runs down the middle of her back all the way to her tail. On each side of it, between the blue borders of the stripe and her underbelly, there is a thick black stripe broken in the middle by a stripe the orange color of her head. The bright colors seem to warn of danger, of venom and/or poison... but in reality, her venom is very mild and used only for immobilizing prey while she swallows it. She also lacks the fangs of a cobra or a viper, meaning that she doesn't have an efficient way to deliver it to an opponent, either.

Even after her post-meningitis reformation, evidence of her past remains in the form of a brilliant aqua stripe down her back. Different from her other stripes, it shimmers with light and what you would swear were rainbows, almost like... the Spire? It shines even brighter when struck by orb-light, like sun reflecting off water, and if the surroundings were darker, one might think there was even a faint halo of rainbow light...

Personality

A disastrous encounter with fantasy meningitis in her 40th cycle left Dewberry with near-total memory loss, personality changes, and a forcible stay in the chrysalis. The amnesia stays with her upon awakening. If she tries hard, she can call up a vague impression of warmth, and of rustling feathers--but why would she try unprompted? Everything seems to be normal upon emerging from her chrysalis; after all, she hasn't known anything different--has she?

Fantasy meningitis hasn't left this snake any more talkative. She watches things from the cover of rock formations, ferns, and tall grasses, or stares into space thinking about who-knows-what, the occasional flicker of her tongue her only movement. She seems to dislike the dark and cold, as well as open or barren spaces: craving the warmth of orb-light on her scales, but only when there is convenient cover to disappear into (or suddenly pop out from!) upon a whim.

She seems content to let other people carry the conversation, rarely speaking up unless asked a direct question. Even her body language is subdued. A snake's anatomy isn't particularly conducive to facial expressions, and her unblinking stare can be unnerving. Uses of magic are hinted at only by a slight twitch of the head or tail. Generally a passive gembound and rather difficult to read, any action or participation in the conversation may seem to come out of nowhere. Even Dewberry herself isn't quite sure how she feels, or why she does things: it might just have felt right in the moment.

History

Adopted by a murderous family. Was taught to fight, but family got murdered before she could murder. Slept a lot. Reawoke and had a reunion with her artistic sister, who abhors murder. Made art and Spire paint together. Lived happily for a while. Contracted fantasy meningitis and got lost.
