Appearance

Doug is a rather cute hybrid of a mongoose and a golden retriever. As a pup, they almost look like a normal dog. They are a bit more plump than they will be as an adult, with oversized, lanky legs with big ol’ paws. The main differences are the rounded, mongoose-like ears and their long, long tail. And of course, their small size, being much smaller than a normal puppy.

Fully grown, Doug will be 1.5 feet tall and 2.5 feet long. They’ll look more noodly than they did as a pup, their long tail only adding to that noodliness. Their fur is a light gold color, long and fluffy especially on the back of their legs, tail, and neck. Their muzzle is long, and contains many tiny, sharp teeth they aren’t afraid of using. In general, Doug looks like a twisty, ferocious, energetic sunbeam.

Doug’s gemstone is a piece of Lapis Lazuli, located on their left thigh. It looks a bit like an arrow with a bite taken out of it, or a poorly drawn heart. It is nearly black, hardly recognizable as Lapis, but if you look close you might spot a bit of a blue sheen.

Being born corrupted, Doug has a tendency to leak goop from their eyes, ears, nose, and lips. This can almost give the appearance they’ve just been crying- if snot and tears were oily black. The fur around these areas is almost always dark, oily, and matted with the goop.

Personality

Doug is the kind of gembound that goes a mile a minute. There are so many things for them to see and do, and they must do it all NOW! Doug is extremely curious, and has little regard for privacy, so they can be rather nosy if they happen to be curious about you. Doug also seems to either be extremely brave or extremely foolish, with absolutely no sense of danger. While they won’t attack someone who is giant compared to them they might try to pick fights they have little chance of actually winning, as well as doing a variety of risky things just to satisfy their curiosity.

Despite their tendency to rush into danger with zero caution, Doug is rather smart. They get a hang of concepts and ideas rather quickly, and are keen to test theories based on these ideas to gain even more knowledge. When not overwhelmed by curiosity, Doug is cunning and can plan things through, although they often simply don’t.

Being born corrupted, some things that would likely unnerve other gembound don’t phase Doug in the slightest. They’ll often refer to the whispers and visions of the hole as ‘the shadows’ or ‘the friends’, and generally talk about them like a close friend or family member. They may try to introduce other gembound to their friends, once they figure out how corruption works.
