Appearance

A medium sized wildfowl, with a body length of 14 inches and a wingspan of 25 inches. They have summer and winter coloration- with summer coloration being reddish-brown with darker barring on the feathers, and dark edges to their wings. Their winter coat is pure white. In between molts they may have a piebald appearance. If they spend a full cycle in a warm cave they'll change to their summer coat, and vise versa.

As a chick they're tawny yellow with dark brown-black marbling with inner orange-brown splotches. Their feet are disproportionally large and slightly fuzzy. As they grow they'll slowly morph into an adult, completely with an ugly teenage stage as hatchling fuzz gives way to flight feathers. HOWEVER, they will not change into their winter coat until they are an adult, even if they stay in cooler-climate caves.

Their gemstone is a delicate replicate of their lungs done in vivid red polished coral- not to be visible unless something goes horribly wrong.

Personality

They have this unnatural sort of calm and stillness that comes with their lack of breathing- or rather, their lack of organic breathing. This combines uncannily with the way they are want to stare, seemingly unblinkingly, at random things for prolonged periods of time.

Really, they are deeply, DEEPLY curious, with more words inside than they could ever express outwardly. Constantly thinking and planning and noting, an internal dialogue that they get lost within at times.

Of course, this dialogue will start as childish things such as 'why is snow cold' and 'what will happen if eat that?' Don't expect a brand-new gembound to be so philosophical.
