Appearance

My lover and I sailed over the Sea

A terrifying ripple in the corner of your vision. A series of dark, tattered fins cutting through the water. A large silhouette cloaked in silver scales reveals itself. You make eye contact with soulless white pupils in a sea of black, as long, jagged teeth open wide...

... and you learn Friend has a very good underwater singing voice.

Seriously, he does! And it's a nice, melodious one too, sharply contrasting the predatory growl of his normal speech. He's a Great Barracuda, and while he may look scary he's just a kid! A long, slim body with nine fins makes speeding through the water at 36 mph a breeze, and his muscular jaw is simply there to catch the small fish he needs to eat. His scales are grey, lighter along the sides with dark turquoise decorating his spine and limbs. Look at them sparkle as he swims. Aren't they so sparkly?

As a kid Friend's super tiny, small enough to fit in one's hand! His inverted eyes are huge and his fins are tiny. He grows quickly, though, and'll be a whopping 6.2 feet (or 188 cm) long by adulthood.

Post-mutation, his fins have elongated and sharpened into terrifyingly sharp spines with ragged edges. His teeth now hold a paralytic venom capable of immobilizing most creatures.

He has another more subtle mutation: the ability to breath air. Alongside it are a couple of small modifications to allow easier movement on land- belly scales like a snake to allow easier 'slithering,' and more strongly muscled fins to allow him to drag himself along.

His stone's Musgravite, a blackish-green crystal that grows from under his first dorsal fin and erupts from the space before the second. Luckily it doesn't interfere with his swimming but does make the muscles around there a bit tense.

Personality

The wind and the sails of our tiny boat said:

Friend is a friend for you! At least, he would be if his scary appearance and tendency to lunge at strangers didn't scare people away. He's a very social fishy with lots of love and curiosity to share! Friend's surprisingly polite and self-controlled for his energy level. Quite loony, though, and often entertains weird ideas like "what if water's made of ghosts?" or "can I eat myself?"

Friend's greatest goal is just that: to be a friend to EVERYONE in the universe! As a result, he readily shifts his personality to match that of a prospective friend: a bit flirtatious here, a smidge of rowdiness there, to the point he's practically different gembounds depending on who he's talking to.

Some things are stable across the board, like his aforementioned sociability and a lack of ambition in anything beyond popularity. The other traits are... less positive. He's easily nervous for one, which isn't exactly helpful for an extrovert. He isn't aware of his strength and may accidentally hurt someone when he just wants to play. And while Friend genuinely cares about people, he's very unsympathetic, and if someone starts crying he's more likely to stare awkwardly than try to help. What's he supposed to do? Force them to smile?

In the end he's just a not-so-little fishy, flawed like any being, who just wants to cheer people up. Just don't tell him about all the cave lore. His poor brain might explode.
