This Drone was designed as a multi-purpose servant, to be utilized for anything from scouting and delivering messages to attending higher-ranking creatures. It was intended to be pert, friendly, helpful and attentive, though whether these traits actually took or not is unknown. Its body--about eight feet in length from nose to tail tip--is large to defend itself from many creatures while not being too bulky to escape notice or flee into smaller spaces. Soft, white scales like snakeskin cover its body, and metallic golden fins aid it in swimming; a slight peak of red behind the jawline shows that this creature has gills, as well as a lung system as evidenced by its long nostrils. A large "bib" of fin lays flat over its forelimbs, offering protection and streamlining its swimming. The only other flashes of red are the bright pupils and the neat, curved claws--longer at the front, for utility; blunter at the back, for movement. Long, fishlike jaws open to reveal many small, needle-like teeth, useful for catching its smaller prey. The occiput of its skull comes to a short, blunt point. This Drone is a good climber, a decent digger, and is capable of balancing upright or bounding on all fours. It can also give off a soft, golden illumination at will, via bioluminescence.
So that they can operate without attracting undue attention, Halcyon's stone is hidden beneath flesh and fin, replacing the sternum bone. Like how their appearance lacks the bulk necessary for intimidation, their voice doesn't possess the harshness required for such things as well. Halcyon speaks with a gentle lilt and scholarly tone that serves to diminish their threat. It may run cold with the occasional expression of disdain for the hopelessly chaotic, but never to the point of becoming completely frigid. Personality
Halcyon is what others may deem a consummate professional. In the service of the Hive they were created, and to perpetuate its existence they would gladly unravel their own. Fulfillment, an eternal fuel for every action committed, lies in the work they pursue. Perfection is all they will accept as the outcome of their actions; any less would imply a severe defect of their design, one they’d readily submit to the elimination of.
Just as the Hive is employer for Halcyon, so too is it family. In fact, the Drone regards its entirety as their ward. The whole cannot function its best if any one is out of sync, a fact that encourages them to check in on the well-being of their fellows. They will willingly listen to concerns, tend to needs, and do whatever is in their power to cultivate everyone to their fullest potential. Sometimes this may be as little as running an errand, while other times the issue may require them to shoulder a burden decidedly too heavy for their comrade. It matters not the size of the problem; what does is that they serve well. This extends to dealing with sources of distress detected, situations that reveal a far more vicious but nevertheless effective side of their nature. Responses are calculated based on the threat level faced and the efficiency of methods that can be executed against it. These range from simply taking on the job themselves to removing the issue permanently—an option that often risks being messy, but one they will suffer through if it makes the most logical sense. Due to the broadness of their function, they may be more flexible in how they approach their activities than most. Combined with their single-minded protectiveness of the Hive, as with less-than-pleasant tasks that drive their neatness-obsessed mind bonkers, they are able to push boundaries for progress’s sake, exposing themselves to the myriad imperfections in the caves they wish others not to experience. This has ultimately led to them developing a keen sardonic wit to accompany their eye for detail, a coping mechanism as much as routine is when dealing with whatever disorder they encounter on a daily basis. As they take upon the unruliness of the surrounding world, they will determine a primary goal that encapsulates all which they do: the absolute conversion of the caves, not just the sapient resources therein, but all matter contained. They consider it a vast undertaking, but a necessary one, since only once accomplished can there be a truly hospitable place for their brethren. History
