A fully-grown adult, Hawthorne looks more like a gangly teenager - and always will. His thick, plush fur is always matted down and tangled, even though he almost obsessively grooms it, creating bald patches along his ankles and hocks. The hair on his face is the only that remains untouched, although with the amount of constant stumbling around on his thin, stringy legs, the bruises more than make up for it. The blue gemstone in his eye is more than a bit scuffed, while the other, golden eye never seems to look in one place for long, always anxiously skittering its gaze away.

Standing at four feet tall and just over one-hundred pounds, Hawthorne looks every inch of a scarecrow, forever more of an observer and a lawman than a fighter. The only intimidating thing about him are his antlers, curving back with two forked tines and topping out at two feet. They're fairly heavy, and giving their tendency to build up velvet without shedding it, their weight has compounded, giving their holder some concurrent spinal issues.

His light magic tends to flicker between blue and gold hues, but it is always used to tell stories to friends and family, never to harm. Most of his stories include a deer of golden light and a cat in blue shades. In times of celebration, small baubled stones are strung between his tines and antlers, giving off a shimmering blue-gold glow.

NERVOUS WRECK. To say that Hawthorne has anxiety issues would be severely understating the problem. His OCD only compounds the issue, and has resulted in an extremely cautious, closed-off individual, who rarely opens up to anyone but his closest friends. Tremors and twitches from these ticks have gained him a reputation for being clumsy and awkward in movement, posture and attitude, never really getting how to interact with others the way everyone else seems so easily, in his eyes, to do.

SELECTIVELY MUTE. With his friends and family, Hawthorne can manage to get out fairly fluid sentences - but with others, he has to concentrate with all of his might to get the words out, disregarding tone and subtext for the clear and to the point response. Without this ironclad structure, his words start to crawl back into his throat, and he clams up entirely, oftentimes simply leaving the conversation to avoid further embarrassment. As a result, he hasn't made any friends since his first cycle, sticking close to those he met when he was a child and refusing to even step outside of Pisces' walls without an escort.

SHORT-TEMPERED. He's learned to hide his anger with time and patience, helped by Bartos and his gentle nature, but Hawthorne is still, at his core, full to the brim with unleashed emotion over his family's history, and will snap once his patience has been spread thin. These bursts of rage are short-lived, and are only ever verbal, with profuse apologies stumbling over themselves as soon as anger has faded into nausea and profuse guilt. By now, he's started to channel these stressors into his stories, keeping the darker, more morbid tales to himself.

BOOKWORM. If there's one positive trait that has stayed with him through his isolated growth, it's his love of learning. Knowledge is power in Hawthorne's eyes, much stronger than any brute force or vengeful wrath could ever be. However, he's slowly lost the will to find a way to fully record his vast array of stories, and has instead turned this passion into one for history and the future of Maji Walezi. He yearns to follow in the footsteps of the former leader, Bevy, and keep law and order alive in Pisces.

LOVING. In his heart, all Hawthorne really wants is for the people he loves to be safe - and when he loves someone, as rare as finding that bond can be for him, he loves them to the point of self-destruction, if need be. Thankfully his relationships have been supportive enough to dampen this negative behavior, and instead of turning on himself to please others, he has the self-respect to talk to them... even if the words come in erratic, mumbled spurts.
