Appearance

From a Weak and Helpless Beginning,

Heathen will start out small, birthed from their chrysalis just past five cycles of development. At this point in their growth they will only weigh around 15 pounds. Their eyes would have developed their piercing yellow colour about a cycle prior to their emerging, and spots would have only just started to form on their pelt. They won't have much muscle to them yet, but what they do have will be hidden by their soft fur until it fully forms their trademark spots and loses some of its fuzzy texture. Thankfully, this meager amount of muscle is enough to hunt small prey and run pretty fast; hopefully fast enough to escape a potential predator and ensure their survival in their first cycle.

Most importantly, though nearly hidden by the yellowing fuzz, their gemstone rests on their chest as though it was crumbled and thrown at them by whatever creature brought about their birth. Though connected underneath their skin, only small parts of the opal are visible as rounded beacons; a warning about the magic such a young cub would one day hold.

Heathen will have fully grown into their yellow fur with black-ringed brown spots by half a cycle old.

To an Untouchable End;

Upon completing their final growth spurt, Heathen will be a much more formidable opponent. Now weighing in at approximately 84 pounds with a length of 78 inches from nose to tail tip and standing 25 inches tall, Heathen can put a lot more power behind their claws. Though said claws are fairly short, only around 2 inches long and curved to boot, they are thick and strong. In fact, they are strong enough that they can climb a tree to stash their kills for later if they so chose to.

Though likely heavily scarred by adulthood, Heathen's fur is now a downward gradient from an almost orange-yellow to a pale cream. Heathen's body is also slender, rippling with muscle just beneath their pelt without much to protect it. A broad chest and meaty haunches showcase the majority of their power; muscles well-adapted to tree-climbing and running, reaching speeds of up to 58km/h.

Why Follow a God...

Born in Hydra, a cave where even thinking for too long can be a life or death event... It's no wonder that Heathen is both untrusting and independent. If they can do something alone, they will. And if they can't? They'll still try anyway. Asking for help means owing something in return, and Heathen doesn't look forward to whatever that price might be. Heathen isn't patient, but they're smart enough to know when to keep back- Even if they might complain about it. Other than being distrustful and possibly a little brash, Heathen can be surprisingly persuasive- a skill that might save his soft hide someday and likely comes from his observational skills.

This big cat is a bit of a coin toss some days, going back and forth between hanging back to gather info and rushing in to sink their fangs into something. As the cycles go on they'll become much more likely to do the latter however, and almost impossible to chase off once they have their sights set.

One thing that is certain, however? Their loyalty. Should you well and truly gain their trust, they will do everything in their power to ensure your safety and expect the same in return. The same would hold true for the opposite: holding a grudge.

When You Could Become One?

Should Heathen survive their first cycle after their birth in Hydra, they will likely develop a god complex of sorts; considering their luck to be some mystical power or control over fate. This will likely be the result of the multiple near-death encounters they are likely to have considering their birthplace and attitude. They might consider their ability to see the past through objects to be godly powers and will not believe other gembounds who claim to have this magic. Perhaps he might seek out a following; offering his protection, magic and a home to all gembound accepting him as a god. Or... corruption might claim him instead, offering this dream to him through his service of the void.

Now, this isn't to say all of this is set in stone- Heathen is just a young cub after all. Curious and relatively kind, Heathen will be molded by their experiences more than anything. In fact, Heathen will likely avoid danger for a cycle until they have a chance to grow into their strength.
