Appearance

unnatural It is neither male nor female, nor a gentle "they." It is an "it," a monster, a thing. It holds the ancient identity of crocodilians in its recent ancestry, by way of the alligator Dragon; its other parent is the strange, black-dripping wyvern-beast known as Nox, with her single, red throat-eye and ever-hungry ways. Its body is long and reptilian, built much like an alligator's but far larger--some seventeen feet long--and more slender; moss grows over it, but is coated in the oil.

black It is covered in black reptilian scutes, matte and dull, appearing, when dry, to absorb all light cast at them. When wet, the scales generally gleam with a very dull but rainbow sheen, from the oil that often coats them. Several longer scutes, almost feather-like, protrude as hard keratin points from the tail's tip.

dripping The scales themselves are difficult to see, and are rarely dry. Instead, Hunger is generally coated in a thick, black, sludgy substance, and hanging, black-slicked moss, rendering the scales half-hidden beneath. The oil is a product of its digestion, and so often smells rank, not unlike swamp water.

predator The limbs are all tipped with clawed digits, though thickly-webbed for swimming. The jaws are lined with black fangs. These claws and fangs clearly mark it as a predator. The forelimbs are long and wildly disproportionate to the body, as if they were building into the wings of its mother, but never quite got there. They are often folded against its sides or splayed out, hidden in its silhouette. The hind legs are longer and straighter than an alligator's, but still relatively similar.

still and silent It is an ambush predator, spending most of its time motionless even when hunting. When it does move, it can move with violent bursts of speed and even a repulsive grace, though not for longer than a few moments at a stretch.

blind Hunger has no external eyes, and when its mouth is closed, it is wholly blind. Powerful sensitivity to sound, vibration and smell guides its hunting. Eye sockets are externally soft-skinned and black, void of eyeballs, with thicker hide beneath rather than anything so normal as eyes. Hunger does, however, have one seeing eye: blood-red, with a slit black pupil, visible only whenits jaws open--perched at the back of its throat, over the rear of its black tongue. Its gemstone is a dull, mud-colored jasper run through with streaks of sickly green and brown. This gemstone sits atop the skull and in both eye-sockets: if the black lids do open, the third eyelids will pull back to show sunken, dull gemstone beneath. This stone also erupts from the top of the skull in asymmetrical, uneven bumps and short spikes, creating a haphazard array of lumps across its snout and over the front ridge of its head. The gemstone does not replace the entire skull, but rather, sits where the eyes would be and replaces and covers much of the top.

horrific Its voice is formed not by a voice box and tongue, but the guttural movement of air through throat, as with its mother. It is thus wholly unnatural, a rasping, growling, wet gurgling that only barely approaches intonated speech.

Personality

ravenous Hunger is named after the single most prominent part of its personality. It is always-hungry, always-hunting, like its mother--yet, like its father, primarily carnivorous. As a result it will attempt to consume any living being it comes across, with few exceptions; perhaps its parents, or experience, will give it pause at sentient Gembound. It will blindly consume any insects, meat, or fish that come its way, including completely rotten flesh, without issue. In a pinch it can also eat plant matter, but this will tend to make it rather ill, and provide little nutrition--serving only to stave off starvation.

reptilian It is cold, calculating, and manipulative. It is not warm, and shares none of the social responsibility of a mammalian or avian creature. It cares not for selflessness, for love, for self-sacrifice or for aiding others. Instead, it eats, and survives, and that is all that it will focus on. It is possible that, given time, it will learn of these concepts--but it will never truly understand them. It may only use them to attempt to manipulate others' actions.

indifferent It is not sadistic. It is not malicious. It does not aim to torture, or to toy with its food. It may occasionally take pleasure in a feeling of intellect or power, but this is unlikely; more often, it will simply eat, or if it is not eating, will speak--rarely--with a cold and alien logic. It is not that Hunger is immoral; it stands, rather, apart from all morality.
