Khloros is, by all appearances, a very normal stallion. He is jet black, tall and leanly athletic in his build, standing sixteen hands (5'4") at his withers and weighing a bit over a thousand pounds. He appears to be something along the lines of a large warmblood or thoroughbred in this build.
His coat is a glossy, healthy black, his mane and tail thick. His eyes are a warm brown, and his gem is hidden beneath healthy hide and muscle. He radiates health, his voice clear and soft. He bears himself with the stolid quietude of a large horse. Khloros does not have an elemental type. Where once he was a Prokaryotic Master, he is now nothing at all: helpless against magic, unable to use it to either defend himself or to aid others in any way, with the exception of non-elemental magic. His gemstone, a yellow-green Butter Jade, is hidden now beneath the hide of his left ribcage, settled neatly between two ribs. The stone, however, is not pure: it is threaded through with rainbow turquoise in an unusual mix of gemstones themselves. Should it ever be seen, these threads look identical to the gemstone of the Spire. His appearance is a far cry from prior. Before his mutation, Khloros was not a "natural" beast: he was a diseased nightmare. Still a horse in general appearance, he was skeletally thin, with a necrotic, infected hide and a dull, matte coat. His gemstone was occasionally visible in the open gore of migrating wounds that gradually moved over his body, and pus slicked his flesh. His eyes glowed sickly green-white. He brought plague wherever he walked. He would no longer even be identifiable to one who knew him in the past. His reformation, oddly, seems to have simply made him... mundane.
Personality
Khloros is an intelligent, quietly thoughtful being. He is not hostile, and rarely violent or confrontational. Instead he is attentive, polite, and dutiful, though neither fawning nor eager to please--rather, he is quite aloof, and seemingly content without any social interaction. He will aid children as he finds them, and will protect them, or other innocents, from the aggression or manipulation of others.
A series of tragic and miraculous events have left him striving to solve a puzzle whose picture he can't quite see. His death, and then revival by a kind, mysterious greater being, has left him changed: no longer intent on spreading plague to complete his self-given purpose of putting an end to Origin Cave. He now struggles to fulfill the purpose he was newly-given: to spread his previous beliefs among others. He remains uncertain, however, about how to end the tyranny that he perceives (and believes the strange creature confirmed by reviving him). Khloros now sets himself toward unravelling the threads that bind the caves: to understand the past, so that he can properly perform his task of guiding--of fixing--the future. History
Early LifeKhloros was hatched from a pus-colored butter jade in Tunnel K, a forbidding place. He was a diseased nightmare even as a foal, appearing sickly but in truth carrying his disease without any real symptoms. He was emaciated, his eyes glowing with ghostlight.
As a foal, Khloros was brightly curious, even warm and friendly. He made a few friends early on, his best being the numbat Booker present at his hatching, and he travelled through three or so major caves in his adventures. During this time, he demonstrated a likelihood to become, despite his appearance, a kind and supportive friend. However, events molded him quite differently.
Later on, Booker--still Khloros' closest friend--became close friends with another dragon who turned out to be completely insane. This dragon killed anyone close by--or tried to--whenever the scent of blood was on the air. Booker, with his mind linked to the dragon's with magic, began to go mad from this horror--and Louie, too, found out about the bond between the dragon and the numbat. When Louie used his own prokaryotic magic to disease Booker, and used Booker's life to blackmail the dragon toward his own ends, Khloros was even more deeply affected. His already-traumatized, colder self became deeply manipulative and survival-oriented, and he began to push further and further for his survival, and for Booker's. In the end, it was he blackmailing Louie, diseasing the fox with quiet threats of death if Louie did not leave Booker be. Yet the dragon vanished from the caves--dead, perhaps?--and Booker, by now sporting multiple personalities, and with his normal one now an obvious, broken facade--also disappeared.
Given Khloros' betrayals as a foal, some part of him--despite his embracing of death, as a whole--still saw children as innocent and to be protected. He knew that what was done to him was wrong, and so he would aid, and even defend, newly-hatched Gembound where he found them. Yet he was, at his core, still a "bringer of death."
In the ensuing battle, Khloros was killed. But he did not completely die: instead, body wracked by the agony of the Spire's tormenting magic, he returned to a chrysalis. As he fell, more visions plagued him: as he suffered, he saw the purple cloud with acid eyes fighting a noble white centaur-like being. The Spire behind them was oily and black, and as it shattered, Khloros fell. In his chrysalis, as he breathed his last, he saw the white creature kneel before him--smiling gently--the Spire behind it now teal in color.
He felt comforted, in a sense--as if some motherly being were watching over him. He felt like a foal again, new and alone, but cared for, and when he next awoke, he was whole. Still alone, but now with his prior identity stripped away, the horse sought the answer to two very difficult questions: "Who am I?" and, "what am I doing here?" |
