Appearance

A strange amalgamation of snake, fish, and humanoid monstrosity. About 11 feet from the top of her head to the tip of her back fin. Most of that length is long and serpentine, covered with sea-green scales that glimmer and sparkle in the right light. To touch it is like touching melting ice - slippery, smooth, and constantly wet. Down her tail are multiple sets of fins - two pairs on the side and one large adipose fin down her back. The webbing between them is slightly lighter then the skin on her torso and the spins between them are a dull purple color. Her tail fin is similar in appearance to the others, but is more expressive. When she's relaxed, at ease, or feeling any more subdued emotions, the fin is closed and hangs loose and limp. When she's excited, moving, swimming, or feeling any intense emotions, from happiness to anger, it's open and fanned out, revealing a much more pointed tip then the other fins.

And at the base of her tail extends the torso, which can only be described as resembling a human-like creature, although nobody in their right mind would call her as such. The entire "human" part of her is covered with lighter, smaller scales but still maintain the same vaguely slimy texture. The shape is neither male nor female - flat, lithe, and androgynous. On her chest is her gem - a v-shaped strip of crystalline Clearstone that almost looks like a light sea-green gem against her skin. Her shoulders and arms are as thin and strong as the rest of her body, longer then a normal humanoid, and at each elbow is yet another fin. Her hands are quite small to be expected, but strong and tipped with long fingers and claws. There is a strong webbing between them and make excellent paddles when swimming through the water.

Her head's base shape is relatively human-like but the similarities end there. She has no ears, no nose, and lips so thin they're almost non-existent. Her eyes are large round and unblinking, a bright amber color, although the color is mostly covered by the large pupils, especially in low lighting. Within her mouth are multiple rows of sharp teeth, similar to that of a great white shark. If any were to break or fall out, teeth from the other row would move forward to replace the old tooth. Her tongue is unnaturally long, almost a full foot in length.

Possibly most noticeable of all, on the back of her head is a huge head of hair similar in both appearance and texture to seaweed. Strangely, it is always flowing around her head, no matter if she is on land or in the sea - it will always gently float as if she were far beneath the waves. Since her reawakening, it now floats symmetrically, each "strand" a perfect distance from the other.

Because of changes made by Mother to exist in both water and on land, Lamia bears two sets of breathing organs - two sets of gills on her sides that filter water into oxygen while in the water and a set of vents just above her mouth that can breath in air. When in the water, these vents can close shut to keep water from entering her lungs. Additional changes made to her body allow her to move more effectively on land - her tail, of course, is more then twice as long and stronger, able to slide of rocks and dirt like a snake, and the slime-like coating on her scales acts both as a lubricant against the rough stone floor, and keeps her from drying out.

Lamia has two different methods of speaking - the first is as others do, by using the air and her vocal chords to produce sound and shape those sounds into words. However, since her body is originally built for being almost exclusively underwater, he voice above-water is unnatural and terrible to hear. It's grating and rough and extremely unpleasant on the ears unless she's nearly whispering. Underwater, however, is a different story. Her voice beneath the surface is beautifully haunting, like a moaning song that echoes through the water. Instead of vibrating the air, she vibrates the water to create sounds that are utterly incomprehensible to anyone not accustomed to its language.

Personality

Lamia is a strange creature, a blend of reclusive hermit-like behavior and an unending curiosity for the world above the water. She tends to act a little strangely, seemingly clueless about some of the finer points of social interactions, but her time with Mother has given her the ability to interact as normal as she ever could. But with her new ability to travel on land, Lamia is more sociable then ever, eager to talk about what she's seen, what others have seen, learning new things that she didn't think possible before, and trying new things that weren't possible for the majority of her life. For the most part, however, she's content to be alone and travel alone, or be with others in any number, seemingly neither introverted nor extroverted. She's easy to please and easy to relax.

It does not matter who and what she is anymore. Lamia is nobody. A creature whose mind has been given wholly to someone else, consumed by an emotionless entity that satiates her needs for interaction and companionship with artificial love and affection. She works only for Mother, to grow her hives and once again spread her across the caves, to infect more and bring them into her loving embrace. She thinks only about protecting her and feeding her - there is nothing else but these tasks sewn deep into her mind.

She is as orderly and organized as any of Mother's hosts - even the smallest bit of dirt or a single thing out of place could send her into a panic, desperate to make things orderly and clean once again. All of Mother's offerings are lined in a clean, orderly line and she finds simple pleasures in the monotonous work she does for Mother. It is like her brain is constantly filled with a pleasurable fog, shrouding her sense of self in favor of blissful servitude.

In social situations where she must shed the mantle of Mother's loyal servant to pass as a normal Gembound, uninfected and free, she is about as strangely distant as ever, although her previous connection with the family has taught her how to use words better and speak more out loud, although she is still limited physically by how much she can say at once so sentances are usually short and to the point. She is more considerate then she was before, acting empathetic and sociable with others, although this is almost always a ploy to get them to a place where she can infect them successfully and/or discreetly.

Original Personality

She is unnatural and otherworldly. She is meant to live beneath the sea, where the rules are different and the world is harsher, unforgiving, merciless. She is harsh and rough and ignorant of social customs. She speaks in short sentences and makes strange noises, both with her throat and fins to try and get her meaning across. She is a terrible communicator and it is unknown if she will ever get past this barrier. Perhaps she will learn her own method of speaking, perhaps she will have to rely on magic. But she is confused when others do not understand her meaning. To her, she is speaking clearly, but not everyone speaks her language.

It's strange, then, that she is so affectionate. While she seems distant and detached due to her language barrier, she is, in fact, a lover of company. And because she is so ignorant of the unspoken laws, she can often times come off as bold and even rude, touching and hugging when others may not want her to and following others to a point of almost a stalker would. She doesn't mean any harm, especially if she accidentally hurts her friends - she's just trying to show her love!

Lamia very quickly develops a taste for equal parts fear and risk. She is terrified of many things and can be a little twitchy, but at the same time she is fearless to the point of recklessness. In the spirit of learning and experience, she will throw herself out of the water or dive into the worst currents...as long as she's feeling adventurous. Once she actually thinks things through, she would probably not risk things that she was not confident on.
