Size: 12'7ft long from nose-to-tail, and about 4'5ft tall at the shoulder with a 20ft wingspan
Appearance
Lichen is a strange creature. When she first hatched she was no bigger than a scrawny little lizard with wings so small they couldn't even be able to lift her off the ground. Her gemstone is located behind her eyes; connected through the skull and permanently blinds her. She cannot see, something that has only gotten worse with age and lack of practice. While she'd once been able to magic to gather some information from her surrounds, she is extremely out of practice. Instead, she relies on smell, touch and the feelers that coil from her nostrils. Her scales are very dark - almost pitch black. She would be relatively hard to spot if it weren't for the strange markings adorning her body - all of them a pale green and glow very gently. Her inner mouth, forked tongue, feelers, wing membrane and the ridges on her face also glow very gently. The markings are mostly stripes on her feet, tail, belly and throat - the glow gently emanating from the seams where scale meets skin. A feathery crest adorns the crown of her head, inky black feathers expanding out gradually into a brilliant gleam that, unlike the rest of her body, does not actually glow. The feathers lift and rise depending on her mood - though relying on her crest alone will make it hard to realise how she's actually feeling. While her wings are large enough for her to seem capable of flight, she's rarely seen off of the ground. A closer inspection of her teeth will show not only sharp canines but also molars. Personality
Despite once having a sense of adventure long ago, cycles of solitude have long since quieted the urge. Lichen cautiously skitters from tunnel to cave, avoiding confrontation --no matter what sort-- no matter what. Even if it set her off-course and down unfamiliar paths that she hadn't mapped out in her head. She lived and learned little beyond climbing, walking, eating and that she may slow the throb of her glow by holding her breath; though the exact nature of it is still unclear to her on account of not being able to see. She only knows holding her breath makes it less likely for others to see her. Yet now, something seems to have changed the heart of this stubborn, old, gembound. She ventures more openly into spaces, not afraid of being seen by others like she once was. It's hard to tell what exactly triggered this change of heart. Lichen still remains the controlling individual she once was; all centered purely on the insecurity of being unneeded and unwanted. While good natured, she struggles with friendships and maintaining them; often obsessing over the details and nature of her companions opposed to simply enjoying the joys of life. Lichen feels the need to be involved in things after so long away. She will butt her way into any activity she see's fit and take rejection extremely poorly. This gembound will linger, lurk and pester at any given opportunity once someone catches eye (or, well, her equivalent of eyes). History
When first hatched, Lichen was a scrawny little thing. No bigger than a scrawny lizard with wings too small to even grant her lift. A far cry from the several foot long gembound she is today. Hatched without the ability to see, certainly made for some challenges for a fresh gembound. It was fortunate that her younger self received some guidance from the friendlier of gembounds during these early cycles. Those to be eyes while she came to peace with the blindness and learned to adapt. However, frustration would eventually grow. It was difficult to find food when it took every ounce of concentration to find anything at all. She learned decently to rely on her other senses, smell from her forked tongue -- not unlike a snake or monitor -- touch from the feelers that coil around her face, and hearing. But, the moment finding food became easier, she stagnated. Without the presence of others, she meandered. Moving from room to room, away from anything that seemed even remotely like a threat and lived a life of solitude and borderline hibernation. She ate, she slept. She moved when food became hard to find or the cave didn't feel right, and did nothing else. Lichen emerges yet again, now. Stunted in everyway imaginable, magically, physically, socially, the list goes on and on. Despite her age, she's little more skilled than a fresh gembound bumbling around the caves for the first time; her only advantage being that she at least knows how to walk, talk and climb.
