Appearance

The thing most notice right away is it’s size. While most shifting mantids max out at 7 inches, Morpho is whopping 16 FEET long when fully grown. You might not notice it at all, however, as It resembles a tree more than a bug. It is mostly a mottled brown, like tree bark. Its exoskeleton has 'ruffles' on it, making it resemble tree bark even more. On top of this, it has some green growths that resemble moss, or lichen. It’s coloration, in general, resembles Astape denticollis.

Morpho’s body shape is a mix of a Ghost mantis and an Orchid Mantis. Its legs resemble an Orchid mantises the most, thicker and a bit shorter. Instead of a petal-like growth, each leg had a part in the middle resembling hanging moss- green and jagged-shaped. Its raptorial arms are often tucked close to it’s body, and are a mostly mottled brown like the rest of him, but are tinted green at the tips. It’s abdomen is long, like the Ghost mantis, with a pair of wings tucked tight to it. The wings are faintly striped mottled greenish-brown. While capable of flight, it rarely flys very far. It will most often walk slowly, usually swaying, or jump to get around. It’s eyes stick up, much like an Orchid Mantises.

Morpho’s Gem is a chunk of amber located on top of their head, right between its eyes.

Morpho will often use plants as camouflage, hosting moss, vines, grass, even occasionally flowers or small shrubs. It also has a great fascination with carnivorous and poisonous plants, and might try to grow these in a morbid sort of ‘garden.’ It may host these plants on itself, but only for intimidation purposes.

Personality

Morpho is extremely patient. It’s not uncommon for it to stay still for hours at a time, waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike and catch its prey. Most often, it is content to simply sit and observe the world around it. It will not often strike up conversation on it’s own, but will respond if spoken to, if only to be polite.

Morpho, despite its quiet, stand-offish nature, is rather competitive. It will not skip the opportunity to spar. It is a surprisingly aggressive fighter, using it’s raptorial forearms aided with plant magic to great effect. It spends much of it’s time either hunting or looking for other ways to improve it’s skills.

Morpho will most likely choose a corner of the caves to cultivate a garden of its own. Most of the plants it will grow will be poisonous, as it is greatly fascinated by these sorts of plants. It will also have a small collection of carnivorous plants of which it is very fond of, treating these plants almost like it’s children. It also will try to cultivate plants with medicinal properties, if it stumbles upon these kinds of plants. It will only grow plants it deems useful- either as healing, or potentially killing possible enemies. The purpose of the carnivorous plants? “Being cool.”

Lawsonite - Fledgling level ???

Comet's digging yielded a greasy-looking, periwinkle point of lawsonite. Its facets were geometric and Fledgling-level magic resonated from within it. A creature, at the edge of a thin and trickling creek, shifting foliage surrounding it. The soft sound of birdcry rose up, eclipsing real sound around the magical watcher. The beast was on all fours, heavy-limbed, with a slightly taller front end; thick, black fur covered it in a shaggy pelt, edged with chocolate hues and a white stripe down its muzzle. A pink, pig-like nose, two small tusks, and almost humanoid eyes made up the face; the ears were small, pointed, and tufted. The forelimbs were again humanoid, knuckle-walking along, while the back were cloven-hooved; a short, tufted tail balanced along behind it.
