Appearance

At 4 cycles old, Equinox has entered adulthood and finally metamorphosed into her adult form. At 17 feet long and 7 feet high at the shoulder she towers over many of the caves' other inhabitants. In addition to this, her neck and tail have a composition similar to an elephant's trunk, made up of muscle and able to stretch out to seemingly impossible lengths.

She is held together by a rubbery and flexible skeleton consisting of a spine, leg bones, and a few loosely connected vertebrae. This is what allows her body to keep its basic shape whilst being able to fit through spaces almost as tiny as her gem, as well as being able to eat and store an enormous amount of food. She requires a massive amount of energy to stay functioning, and the explosive slime oozing from her body is in fact the waste product of all that food, whilst having the added benefit of keeping her fragile skin moist.

Though at a glance she retains a lot of the creepy vibe that makes many Gembounds uncomfortable, in her adult state she has an unmistakable elegance to her. With a long swan neck, slender body and a loping run not dissimilar to an extremely flexible puma, those who look past the initial shock will undoubtedly find a unique, if alien beauty.

Equinox's forelimbs have also developed into wings with membranes made up of what appear to be fleshy balloons. When they catch the air, these balloons will inflate, allowing Equinox limited flight and gliding ability.

What a disgusting, yet intriguing creature.

As far as basics go, little Equinox appears to be nothing more than a large, beaky slug, lacking many distinguishing features, eyes, and legs. She's jet black with a sheen of grotesque rainbow similar to an oil slick. In addition to constantly dripping a tarry, flammable substance, she has an oily, slimy texture herself and so she isn't a sight for the squeamish. Possessing vestigial limbs in the form of claws poking out of its sides, it appears at a glance to be completely defenseless. At birth, she'll only be around 2ft in length, no bigger than a kitten.

Those who try to eat this little slug would get a nasty shock though, as this little one possesses hidden spines on the back of its neck and the base of its tail, which are only pushed to the surface and displayed in times of great distress, aiming to make them look bigger than they actually are.

Another unusual property of this little one is its skin and the composition of its flesh. It has few rubbery, flexible bones and flesh that can change texture and shape like that of an octopus. Using this, the little one could make itself look spiky or scaly with ease despite it being as soft and gooey as the marsh from which it came. In theory, this creature could fit through almost any gap so long as its gem can.

Which, in turn, brings us to this creature's gem. The only solid parts of Equinox are her gem, her claws, and her hidden spines. Her gem lies in her throat, encasing an organ which might be an eye. The little creature can only see when she opens her mouth, and although this protects her eye, it both makes for a creepy sight and an inconvenience for the little one.

Who knows what this little slug will one day grow into.

Personality

In this case, looks are very deceiving.

Equinox, overall, is friendly, loving, and always willing to help. Like a slimy dog, she will follow around those she trusts and even imprint onto others like a duckling. Vulnerable and easily frightened and yet overly curious, she may be prone to straying unknowingly into dangerous situations if not redirected. With no legs and a remarkably slow gait, she may even need to be rescued once or twice before she reaches adulthood.

However she is also shy, and can be uptight; if you sneak up on her (which is easily done due to the placement of her eye), she will be easily frightened. If there's someone she knows, she's likely to hide behind them in the presence of someone new.

Her kind and loving nature is likely to stay with her for most of her life, although this of course depends on the others she meets. If they show them kindness, she will be in turn. If they treat her like the demon she appears to be, well, she may very well become it.

Equinox, in the early days of her life, will find it difficult to speak due to the gem (and the eye) that lies in her throat. As a result, words she speaks will be limited to short and often simple phrases, but usually just nothing at all. Mainly, she will use a combination of shrill squeals or low pitched gurgles generated deep within her.

History

Cycle 1

Equinox is born in Cetus and rescued from the bog by Tukluk, who promptly flees due to her disgusting and frightening appearance, and love for hugs. The child wanders for a while, stumbling into and befriending Xin, who she befriends and then follows to Pisces. The little slug then meets Soren, who she takes an immediate liking to, until causing an explosion with her slime, inadvertently discovering her powers over fire magic. this makes Soren scared and angry, and he turns his back on her.

Equinox feels upset and angry with herself, untrusting of her powers. She begins to dislike the way she was made and sees herself as a monster. She decides to go into hiding after almost getting into a fight with Xireidi.

Cycle 2-3- the great hibernation, in which Equinox goes into hiding. She thinks the silence is simply because she wants to be alone. She grows almost to adulthood in this time, only lacking her wings.

Cycle 3

Equinox is reunited with Tukluk- he doesn't recognize her at first but they form firm friends. Tukluk encourages her to go make friends and be a part of the caves again. So she shyly begins to try and make friends.

Cycle 4

Tracked by Ghanyarah, Equinox accidentally sets Eridanus on fire! the pair fight desperately to put out the fire, working as a team.
