Appearance
Pollux is a very interesting character to say the least. She seems to be the mix of a greyhound, a goat, some sort of bird, and a monkey. As a pup, she will not have any fur on her body. Her skin can often be seen as its usual fleshy color. However, Pollux developed with genes from an octopus, this allows her to blend seamlessly into her surroundings. This gembound also has papillae in rows along skin, allowing her to change the texture of it. Despite this, she cannot grow or mimic the look and feel of fur. Small plants and rocky surfaces can be mimicked. As a newly hatched gemling, her skin will automatically blend into its surrounding as a survival tactic until she is able to fend for herself.
This camouflage is not perfect. Not all of her extremities are able to do what her skin does. A small cluster of scales rests above her grey nose, stopping before it reaches her pale blue eyes. Her ears, quite large for her small head, sit pointed atop her head. Between them, two small grey horns have breached the skin. Her front legs have been replaced with those of a bird, making them stiff and awkward. Pollux cannot bend them except for at the elbow. Wings also rest along the length of her back which are a mottled brown and gray. All of these things are unable to camouflage with her skin. Camouflage and wings are not Pollux only defense in this world. Her tail is long and completely prehensile, acting as a “hand”. It is also lacking fur but has tail feathers at the base of it. It is strong enough to hold her upside down from a branch, but it is not strong enough to strangle large creatures like a cave deer. That’s where she has to depend on what little teeth she has. Pollux hatched without a tongue and very few teeth. This causes her to drool all the time. As if that wasn’t enough her drool and other bodily fluids glow faintly in the dark. This includes her tears, blood, urine, snot, etc. Naturally, her eyes and nostrils also glow faintly. Her stone is a willemite that replaces one of her front canines. As she matures, a fluffy gray mane will grow around her neck. She will max out at the size of a large great dane. Her wings will also grow immensely, enough to allow her to fly short distances. Personality
Without a voice, it can be hard to know what Pollux is all about. From a hatchling, Pollux adapted a very empathetic trait. Seeing that she cannot speak for herself, she finds it very easy to listen to others and others often find it easy to talk. Without her interpreter no one can know what she is really thinking about. Through listening she learns to understand the needs of others and genuinely feels for them. Even though this may seem like a good trait, it leads her to worry a lot about other. This worrying can build up and burst out as fits of frustration. Some frustration also stems from her inability to speak for herself. Pollux cant really voice her concerns or true feelings. Miming everything can get quite tiring. Fear, however, is made very apparent as it will cause her skin to take on the appearance of her surroundings without her permission and she will have a hard time going back to her regular skin until she is calmed down.
While her stone helps in travels to the “astral plane”, Pollux tends to find her mind wandering to that place. She is very much a dreamer and has her head in the clouds. Sometimes a plant isn’t just a plant or a lesser gembound has much greater potential. With this thought, she believes that even the bad have potential to be good. The hybrid finds peace in being able to treat others with kindness until her last breath. This trait may make her seem naive, but she is still young. History
Pollux hatched in a big scary world, met a dragon and a singing porcupine and then spent time wandering the tunnels after almost drowning in the storm. Casual Life.
