Appearance

Redwood as a child will be born open and free to the world. their body will be covered in soft, downy feathers with wings not quite ready for flight. their feathers shine in the light with different shades of blue, accents of white and yellow speckling their features. their messy, unkept, dark blue hair will be a puff that covered their piercing eyes. their gem will sit in the middle of their chest, a blue zircon of smooth and magnificent cut.

as they grow over the next 2 cycles of their life, around their gem will rise the sudden mass-growth of a wood-like keratin armor. it will slowly engulf their body, growing along their features. it will not be fully developed until their fourth cycle.

when they reach adulthood their armor will be fully developed. the shape will resemble that of an anthropomorphic, wooden fox with pale eyes. the thin tangles around their neck, legs and arms allow free movement of their limbs without damaging the armor.

every 2-3 cycles, this armor will shed. it will begin to become velvety and red, falling off as the cycles continue similar to a deers. during the final week of shedding, it will lose most of its color and then detach from their body, able to be broken out of with relative ease. it will then repeat the cycle, growing from around their gem and engulfing their body. their wings, while open during cycles of exposure, will wrap around the stomach once it is uncomfortable to use them otherwise, and will remain that way until the next shedding or until they decide to reveal them.

Redwood is capable of breaking the mouth and parts of their back armor to reveal their wings and actual mouth should they need to, such as to eat or fly away in extreme danger.

Personality

Redwood is not, and never will be, a creature of strictly right or wrong. they will also never have a strict concept of either. instead, their outlook on life is that of risk. and while others may choose risk in hopes for reward, Redwood believes the lowest risk allows for the best reward in the end, as patience is a winners game. they will never outright instigate violence unless given reason, and will often choose the pacifistic or neutral stance than a risky or aggressive one. it is hard to strike any specific nerve in this creature. due to this, Redwood may come off, at first, as kind and selfless. however, most would come to realize they are simply waiting until they get something worth their time. this does not mean Redwood is not genuine, or a liar, but rather it is difficult to truly build a connection with them.

however, that is not to say it is impossible. once Redwood makes a true friend, which usually would take hours upon days upon weeks to achieve, they will never, or atleast quite rarely, think of them as anything but. they cherish the friends they do have with great intensity, a more emotional side of the creature showing when in the company of close ones. Redwood will not cry in sorrow or laugh in great joy very often, but they are not a heartless being. they mourn and yearn and want like any other gembound, just in a different way than most.

aside from their demeanor there is hidden insecurity in them. when they shed, they fall into isolation. they are vulnerable and weak without their armor, sensitive skin and feathers not doing nearly enough to protect them from forces that be. they hate such feeling when they are grown, and act aggressively towards those who come too close, even if they are usually trusted. to see redwood in this form are people who redwood would die without. should they feel safe enough to sit in your presence with everything out and open for striking, it means that they hold you to the highest esteem they can. when the caves are out to kill you, those you trust wont are your greatest comfort.

and, finally, they have a love for all thing musical. while they may spend future time hunting or pondering, they will also often be seen humming a tune, or singing songs of their minds creations in the comfort of an empty field. they share their songs with family and friends, one of the few ways you will ever see redwood truly and utterly passionate.

Cycle 1: Hatched in Pisces during cycle 66 - Hatched above the lagoon in pisces and fell into the water below, almost drowning, though they were rescued by @Comet and later met @Nemo

- "Blue" is Redwoods former name, chosen by Arwen during her hatching thread because of their blue feathers. they later on. during their 4th cycle, perhaps, choose a new name, Redwood, to reference their armor, though allow Arwen to continue using the name.
