Sergei is a massive, bipedal hulk of dark fur: a brown bear-beast that walks on two legs. Small, dark eyes peer at the world from beneath heavy brows, and rounded teddy bear ears swivel to and fro as he makes his way on huge hind paws tipped with long, sharp claws.
A mutated Kamchatka Brown Bear, he still appears quite ursine bar the upright walking, and the new, opposable thumbs. Upright he stands about ten feet tall, and he weighs slightly over one thousand pounds. He's big, dark and burly, with a very thick and shaggy coat of dark brown fur that lightens over his back and head, and darkens along his underside and legs to a near-black. His skull is broad, his snout long and straight, his expression inscrutably intense. Though capable of short bursts of surprising speed, still capable of dropping to all fours for a gallop, the bear is not particularly agile, nor will he often bother to rush at all. Instead he will typically move at a slow and shuffling pace. His explosive power is generally latent beneath an energy-preserving demeanor of observant stillness.
Sergei's stone is a blue-green chrysoprase situated beneath the fur of his right shoulder, spanning much of its breadth. It is visible in a vaguely spiral shape there, strangely tribal or mystical, despite Sergei's blunt and sober nature. The bear will also attempt to have armor and weapons made of his shattered chrysalis stone, matching the same teal hue.
{DISTRUSTING} - {STOIC} - {SLOW}
Sergei was never a vibrant or energetic creature--instead the staid, plodding pace of earth itself has always driven him. This is, however, the only concession the bear makes toward his element; he has always been largely disinterested in learning or honing magical skills, instead relying on his own brute force to defend himself. He is also not particularly aggressive. Sergei is, instead, slow to anger--thinking everything over before acting. And this "thinking" takes a great deal of time, for neither rapid calculation nor deduction are Sergei's strong points. He is, rather noticeably, not the smartest creature in the caves.
Never particularly social, the Hive that usurped Sergei's mind has made him a true, yet now truly lonely, loner. In the beginning he was quite content to remain solitary. The Hive gave him constant companionship, and a sense of purpose, that he had never found before; Mother's approval touched something in him. Realizing her betrayal has left him bitter, distrustful, and keenly feeling the loss of such contact. His instinctive, deep loyalty has made this betrayal that much more painful, a grief and anger that plague his formerly-stoic mentality. Sergei wants company--but he can never trust it again. As a result, he does not behave in a sociable or outgoing manner, never open or friendly, but he may--in a watchful manner--join other Gembound and linger near them, perhaps providing protection or other services in exchange for simpler company, with no strings attached. He is, for now, very emotionally distant, but clearly grim, bitter and lonely.
Sergei is, due to his size and caloric needs, very food-oriented. Much of his time is still spent foraging and fishing, and he finds some peace in this. Despite his aloof behavior and purposeful, constant foraging, the bear does hold a soft side deep down: a poetic appreciation for the aesthetic. This adds to his love of food, of course--a tasty meal is to be savored--but it will also have him pausing, at times, to admire carvings or cave paintings, music, and more. This artistic sense has strengthened since Mother's influence; beauty is true, and aesthetics can grant him insight and emotion that he denies himself from other beings.
