Appearance

PRIMAL

Height: 3.5 feet at the shoulder
Length: ~10 feet long, 4 or so feet of which are tail
Weight: ~200 lbs, lightly-built

Shango is a creature of storms and of rainforest, his pelt dappled with spots and streaked with charcoal-black feathers. His body is quadrupedal, with long, graceful birdlike limbs at foreleg and rear. Each are tipped with non-retractable, straight talons. His long, slender tail balances behind him, limber and strong, ending in a jet-black scorpion's sting half-hidden in the splay of scale-feathers: a mutation gained through surviving the brutal Trial of Hydra. Shango's sting can induce severe seizures in those struck, with flashing lights filling the vision, and one sting may leave a Gembound in this state for several minutes. An arched, muscled neck ends with a catlike head, pointed canines jutting down over the lower jaw, far outsizing his face.

Feathers cover his neck in a draping cloak, after fanning out around his face like a wild mane. These shimmer iridescent, jet black with an emerald sheen. The same stormy hues touch the feathers over his body here and there. Very delicately-etched markings, lined with dark and light fur, cover his body in intricate spotted patterns. Wings, generally very loosely folded at his sides (loosely, so as to avoid the pointed 'thorns' that cover his body) arch to display what might be feathers, or long, soft scales, covering the wings and jutting outward. These wings cannot support his too-heavy body in true flight, but he can use them to jump-fly upward short distances, or to glide at a downward incline.

Importantly: when in low light situations or casting magic, the entire creature's body glows in different hues. His fur will dull to a stormy blue-grey, like that of the nicobar pigeon; his black feathers will glow with cobalt tips, and his stone will shimmer like labradorite: bright, electric blue. Only his glowing green-white eyes will remain the same.

His eyes glow a strange, bright green with a white center: an inheritance, like his tall frame and slender build, from his life-giver Khloros, a naturally disease-carrying, perpetually skeletally-thin horse. There is little else of the horse's build in him, bar his black colors and perhaps the arch to his neck, and a strange incongruity to his birdlike build: at the bottom of each taloned foot is a thick layer of hooflike material. When running, Shango's feet will clatter loudly on stone, making it difficult for him to ever remain particularly stealthy except on soft earth.

His movements, generally, combine the pacing strut of a horse, the luxuriously powerful slink of a feline, and the sharp precision of a bird. He might slink along a log, or arch his neck and shake that feathered "mane," or he might suddenly lift one taloned forefoot into the air, dangling it birdlike as he stares. His movements show little to no trace of his reptilian ancestry.

Shango's genesis resulted from the plagued horse Khloros reviving the stone of a hybrid comprised of Smilodon Populator (the larger species of saber-toothed tiger), nicobar pigeon, and thorny devil lizard. The former two gave him his size and build; he sports the skull and, for the most part, face of the big cat, though far more light and dainty. His body is littered with the lizard's thorny hooks, and his pelt's colors and long tail are reminiscent of the reptile's as well. His iridescent feathers and the ends of his limbs are clearly from his bird ancestry, and his wings are a combination of bird and lizard-scale both.

Personality

UNTAMED

Neither male nor female, but carrying strong aspects of both, though Shango generally sees himself as male due purely to his relatively-masculine voice. This echoes much of Shango's persona: dominant, wild, and independent; changeable and fickle. He is a wild wanderer, his moods liable to be shiftingly volatile as clouds and storms themselves.

With a hot temper, a competitive streak and a dominant persona, he may be likely to get into fights. However, as someone quite independent and with little desire for anything that anyone else might have, he is unlikely to be the one to start them. He will simply not back down.

Shango has very little concept of danger. Thus far, all the threats he's faced--including trials by the cave's Masters--have given him little more than a broken hind ankle; he has never faced terrible consequences for poor choices, and thus tends to fling himself head-first into even dire situations. He's never made any conscious effort to better himself, as his magic tends to come naturally to him and his instinctive nature has him oblivious to the darker dangers of the caves--leaving him bypassing what could be fatal with a blithe obliviousness. It isn't deliberate carelessness, but rather the ignorance of the dumbly-lucky.

He still bears the potential to become molded into something other--perhaps an esoteric and a shaman-type of persona, offering healing and advice, or a powerful, lightning-flushed leader fighting powerfully in defense of what he has deemed his own.
