Appearance

Tal'at was born as an egyptian fruit bat. When he was born, his head was heavy with the weight of the gem on his face and he found it difficult to move without looking like a clutz.

Not much as changed since he mutated; he has maxed out to be 8 inches long, with a wing span just over 2 feet long. His face is long, with a big muzzle and round, large ears-- but the rest of his face is consumed by a rather large brown gem with golden streaks: a perfectly spherical tigers eye gem. Since he mutated, his colors are a bit brighter; while his skin is still a dark brown with a light pink nose with a spray of whiskers along his muzzle, the thick ruff of fur around his neck is splashed with safety yellow. Most of his fur is shades of brown, but it tints orange around his limbs. The long, spindly fingers of his wings are connected by skin that is dark brown on the backside, but that same flash of vibrant yellow shows on the underside.

His mutation has turned the hook on the end of his wing wrist into vibrant orange, wyvern-like claws, giving him several extra fingers that he can now use to manipulate his environment. His previously short, dark brown tail has grown into a long wyvern tail with a bright orange stinger at the end like a scorpion that contains a small amount of natural toxin that numbs the senses. He is not especially good at using it, but it does make others think twice about messing with him. His hind legs remain relatively unchanged, though they are modified to better hold the weight of his tail and allow him to stand more like a wyvern, otherwise his hind claws are still made for tightly gripping anything he might need to cling to.

In general, Tal'at stays withdrawn around himself, wings pressed close to his small body. He doesn't tend to "look" at creatures he interacts with, mostly because he doesn't have to. Often, this bat makes clicking noises almost constantly, and probably will even when he has mastered his magic that will allow him to see more than most creatures. Tal'at moves in quick spurts, often sprinting and then growing very still, or flicking his ear in a wide pivot before freezing. His moves are deliberate, and it's quite obvious to tell how nervous he just by how still he gets when he hears something strange.

Personality

Tal'at is something of a shy, cowardly creature. Preferring to observe rather than interact, he isn't the most... Friendly of beings. He is incredible reserved and has a good sense of danger-- and when his "bat sense" is tingling he's quick to leave the situation before he gets hurt. Tal'at is incredibly averse to fighting, probably due to his frail nature and lack of sight. He may become more confident with time, however, he probably will always be quite a pacifist.

Tal'at's strongest trait is his intelligent. A bit of a strategist, this creature knows how to bide his time and, given enough time to work at a problem, he will find some sort of solution. Observant and always focused on the details, almost nothing will get past this empathetic, thoughtful animal. However, he's not outgoing and will not go out of his way to befriend anyone, despite being the kind of creature that would make a fantastic friend. His shy, reserved attitude keeps him away from most creatures, but if someone could befriend him, they would find that Tal'at is a gembound that you can count on. Maybe not in a fight, of course, but in interpersonal problems or in problem solving, he will hear you out and always have some sort of advice to help you along if you ask.
