A kangaroo is many things, and Test Subject is no different. As a joey, they will be sharp angles and floppy ears, but undeniably cute. Fine, soft gray fur will cover every part of them, accentuated by soulful brown-black eyes. Their face is long and sloping, somewhere reminiscent of a deer's or a camel's, and their large ears are undeniably rabbit-like. Its body is a semicircle, and its long, powerful legs and equally long and strong tail come up behind it. It has powerful arms and shoulders, and five toes on each hand. Its sharp claws are a force to be reckoned with, but they are not as formidable as its punch or its kick.

As an adult, Test Subject Cipher is exactly six feet tall when standing upright. Despite having the general size and body shape of a male Red Kangaroo, it bears the soft gray fur of a female of the species, and a pouch as well. There is nothing inside this pouch; it simply serves to store objects, should Test Subject choose to utilize it.

On its chest is its stone, a stunning sample of blue amber. It is pure of trapped air or imperfections, save for one singular inclusion -- a completely undisturbed albino Wallcrawler, curled up in the middle and barely missing the downward point of the picturesque Valentine's Day heart. The insect is so well preserved that it nearly looks as though it might begin moving. The stone glows weakly under direct Orblight and brightly under stronger sources of UV radiation. It glows even more brightly under UV light. If held directly up to a light source, however, the fluorescence will no longer be visible.

Test Subject Ciper -- the first, but not the only. A lonely child who needed a family, plucked off the ground by anything but. He? She? It? They? Even they don't know. It all comes and goes with the days; gender is a fluid thing, and they are indecisive, and their opinion of themselves is as mercurial as the winds of Monoceros. He is many things -- a person, a life, a test subject. A tool in the path of furthering study. His experiment -- can a Gembound lose their element? (Let's hope he didn't need it anyway.)

Early in his life, he is bright-eyed and curious, eager to make friends and even more eager to find knowledge. He wants to learn, to read, to hear new things, even if the stories he's desperate for are somewhere past the line of fantastic and pressing flush against ridiculous. He wants a happy ending -- he very likely will not get it.

Her life quickly becomes one of tragedy and bare, gray walls. Rock and bar codes and a language she can't read. (She, she, she -- the word tastes bitter on her tongue, but she uses it anyway, because it's no better than any other.) No warmth, no love, nothing like she craves -- this will lead to emotional issues, fidgeting and anxiety and a soul-crushing dread every time she hears the click-click-click of claws on stone. But she is not dangerous to the Laboratory. She never could be. They are the closest thing to family that she has; they are all she has known, period.

She will protect the Laboratory. She will do whatever it takes to help them achieve their goals.

But that doesn't change the fact that it will grow up thirsting for something more. Grasses that aren't underground, wind that isn't soul-crushing. A place lush and green and not half as dusty where it can run and jump and play as it pleases. She will want a life with a real family, where she can graze -- but there are more important goals. More important things to do. They have so much work that needs to be done, so little time to do it -- however will they do all this work before--?

Test Subject Cipher is drifting in a sea of ghosts. It is a ghost. He is a ghost? Someone, somewhere, is a ghost, and the only hope of light is... well, let's not bother thinking about it.

To break the bleakness, Test Subject creates. Creates things out of materials they have, whenever they have the chance. It does what Researcher says, what all the Researchers say, and it does what it can to stay useful -- to stay relevant. To never stop fighting, to never stop serving a purpose. It will do whatever it can, until Before.

After all, it's what he was made for.
