Size: 6’ Long, 12’ Wide, 3’ Tall

Appearance

Relatively large in size, about the length of an adult man and twice as wide, though flat like a pancake, this creature isn’t the most peculiar thing you’ll find in the caves. It resembles a mix of manta ray, lizard, and moth, with anglerfish-like elements. Its main body—the section that holds vital organs—is relatively small, ending midway down its full length, cutting off where the back spines stop. Hollow bones support two fleshy, manta ray-like wings stretching out on either side, only slightly thinner than the main body. A gemstone, pale green, forms a perfectly round bulge on its underbelly.

On the tops of these wings are golden and black eye-shaped markings, designed to deter predators. Gray spines tipped with gold, similar to those along its back, form spear-like projections on the sides of the wings, atop the head, and at the tail. The tail itself consists of two long flares of skin and muscle, ending in ever-glowing golden bulbs that protrude slightly from the flesh. Additional flares extend from beside the head-horns on either side, curving out from the ends of the wings—each tipped with glowing bulbs as well. Bone and muscle stretch between all appendages, making them semi-moveable—except the head flares, which are fixed.

Its inner flesh and blood glow with a radioactive-looking purple, made to seem like it’s unsafe to consume, although the creature is lacking in any toxins. Striking purple scarring from battles past etch into the scales, still bright purple. Clearly carnivorous, its gaping maw holds single rows of elongated white fangs. The mouth’s interior is a bright pink, and two flexible flare-lures extend from either side of a short, split tongue. Four small limbs, each ending in two fingers or toes and short thumbs, hang from its main body. These limbs, equipped with long, dagger-like claws, are mostly useless except for striking at prey beneath it. The back feet have bright purple paw pads, while the front are simply scaled. Gill-like flares line its underside, allowing it to swim and breathe underwater, though it spends most of its time in the air.

Its flares—or lures—are used primarily to attract prey that mistake them for food, much like moths drawn to a flame. It lies in wait for creatures to approach before striking, favoring dark environments such as deep water or shadowed caves. While its wings are capable of flapping, they are mainly used for gliding over long distances with no effort, like a manta ray cutting through water. It travels mainly by air.

Relying solely on its shining lures and sharp teeth to survive, it’s a rather unimpressive animal. The creature can produce low, gut-wrenching screeches—part of the reason for one of its names. Generally, it is not aggressive unless hunting, preferring a solitary and peaceful existence.

Personality

Generally passive, it lives by the law that if you don’t bother it, it won’t bother you. It’s simply a thing, that wishes to exist and survive- It’s goal is not to socialize, or thrive, just make it to the next day. The only time it may aggravate is when it is actively hunting- Something that is preferred to not be interrupted.

Past the general basis of its survival instincts and natural responses, it is a sentient being just as every other creature of the caves is (save the lesser Gembound). It is calm, and knowledgeable (to an extent).
