v-zoisite-one is born into the body of a large violet grub, with six pointed appendages adorned in sharp claws and spines. each limb ends in a warning, bright red shade and has four, rather bird-like digits. the top half of its body is covered in purple, rosette-decorated armor; the other is covered in a crimson fur with bright, warning toxic yellow spines dotting the dense landscape. the chitinous violet plating that darkens toward the top with a blending of rosettes covers the entire dorsal stripe, but isn't terribly restrictive as far as movement. and the mixture of ruddy rusticating hairs and neon quills cover the entire sensitive underside.
it has two heads, one true and one false. both resemble that of its predecessors, atheila and alpha (and its predecessor before that, vargas ). both have sweeping crests, vicious pincers, and glowing pits.
the true head is slightly smaller, with two pincers that clamp over a blinding yellow maw of razor teeth. this head is built upside down, with scent pits on the bottom of the jaw and four acidic yellow eyes positioned on the underside of the lower crest. its pincers end in a splash of bloody red that mimic blood, a warning sign that postures how dangerous it is.
meanwhile, the false head lies at the end of its thick, very prehensile tail, armed with four glossy eye-spots and sharp pincers that can shear through lessers with ease. its external stone manifests as two sickly green and fuchsia zoisite points underneath this powerful weapon. like its true head, the pincers have crimson markings.
all portents point to heartbreak ahead:
one could say that zoisite sees the world from a different perspective. born with a literal heart of gold that shines through and through, it struggles with its identity. between a naturally bristly exterior, a solitary stoic parent and emotionally-detracted family, it struggles with self-expression.
from day one, it wants to love and be loved. life is a constant fight to not lose itself and strive for the affection and compassion that it knows its family (and maybe it, too) deserves.
often, it is confused. it has learned early to protect its inner core from the outside world. like its life-giver, it tends to be stoic and difficult to read, and a poor conversationalist at best. it does not like physical contact, and often recoil or lash out at those who get too close out of fear of hurting them. if it is pushed into a corner, it could easily kill, but it will never actively seek out violence.
despite hardships, it finds ways to be extremely affectionate, and often goes out of its way to show others that they matter. whether that means bringing food home, or asking if they need anything, or simply listening.
surprisingly for a relatively "people pleasing" creature under strict structure, it subverts the typical norms of loyalty in the sentinels. it doesn't blindly follow orders, or go out of its way to impress its peers. sometimes it neglects its duties in favor of cheering up one of its fellow sentinels, and more disconcertingly, it frequently dedicates its spare time getting to know other gembound in the caves. although its loyalty is unusual, it is unwavering. the needs of its family come well before its own, time and time again.
