Appearance

Bartos has a rather massive body - he's what one would call a beast of a cat, with long fur that drapes over his frame and an equally long, bushy tail. However, his fur is prone to static - so unfortunately, Bartos ends up looking more like a ball of puffy fur than the majestic feline he thinks himself to be. His fur tends to be too long for him to groom.

Bartos' coat is primarily a dusty brown colour, with accents of light cinnamon and cream around his face, stomach, chest, legs, and paws. He has a smattering of black fur across his body that resemble tabby marking, especially thick down his sides near his flanks. His legs and tail are mostly black. Bart's nose is a soft pink, the same shade as the inside of his ears. His eyes, however, stand out against the natural colour of his coat - they are a deep, dark blue, gleaming indigo when caught in the light. His stone is a matching shade of blue, a rugged chunk of benitoite situated just below his clavicle. One of the greatest oddities about him is that he has polydactyly - he has one extra toe on each of his paws.

As he ages and explores the caves, Bartos will come to discover several pairs of glasses, through which he is known to cycle depending on his mood and necessity. He uses them to enhance his eyesight in order to be able to inspect rocks better, because he's a weird nerd.

As of Cycle 5, Bartos left hind leg has been broken. It is set outward from his body and because of it, he walks with a limp and sometimes drags it behind him.

Personality

QUIET, PENSIVE, BROODING
Bartos has certainly changed quite a bit from when he was a young, careless kitten. He is quieter now and doesn't enjoy too much social interaction. He prefers his solitude and is somewhat uneasy around unfamiliar faces. Even friends and family (former Maji Walezi members, and his own children) are hard-pressed to get some quality time with Bartos - he is quick to withdraw to his own private quarters where he can be alone. When he is with others, Bartos doesn't contribute much to the conversation. He is more of an observer.

INTELLIGENT, ANALYTICAL, OBSESSIVE
Much as he tries not to, Bartos can't help but pour over the details of anything he thinks is relevant. He is known to become interested in something and dedicate the next several weeks to investigating it, intent on knowing everything he possibly could about the subject of his examination. This is a form of escape from all that haunts him. He is a shut-in, and he would sooner spend his time speaking to no one, studying, than being sociable. That said, Bartos had a wealth of knowledge about several subjects, but by far his favorite field of study is the cave itself, specifically Orion, and the rocks and stones found within.

TROUBLED, MOURNING, SELF DOUBTING
It is no secret that Bartos has lived a shattered life. For a cat that was once so full of love and enthusiasm, he has been rendered dark and bleak. The love he held for the doe Clover has been shredded; having spent so long forgiving her and believing that he could repair her, Bartos finally understood their love was lost when he received word of her demise. That doesn't mean that he has accepted it.

He will always find himself lamenting her fate, and now he finds it difficult to function in the wake of certain distractions. He has trouble focusing at times and shuts others out. Internally he believes that he is weak, he always will be, and he has no more room in his heart to love another. His usually cheerful demeanor has been replaced with a cool neutrality that wasn't forged to hide his emotions - rather, it is a void of emotions that presents itself in a lack of smiles and dull, tired eyes.

FRUSTRATED, TEMPERAMENTAL, DESPERATE
It doesn't take much for Bartos to become frustrated with himself or others. Constant interruptions and distractions from his work are a surefire way to make Bartos lash out with an anger he never used to have. Failure exhausts him and is another source of frustration, but Bartos is not one to give up easily. He is more likely to resort to more desperate measures to ensure his own success.

History

UPDATED as of Cycle 20
Bartos no longer possesses anything except for his glasses. All of his belongings have been abandoned in the small cave he once inhabited in Orion, and his telescope was left behind in Orion's tower. He is currently homeless, but looking to set up a new research area outside of the golems' reach. He is researching gems and their magical properties, and is looking to obtain some gems that previously belonged to living Gembounds, including Clover's.

Bartos' Nest
Bartos' nest is located on a fairly low ridge in the cliff faces. It is an alcove in the wall marked by the presence of a shattered blue chrysalis embedded in the bottom of an overhanging cliff above. The nest is littered with small pieces of rock and dry cloths Bartos has found lying around Orion. In a small crevice in the wall, he stores his precious rocks:
