Appearance

Slender • Tattered • Graceful

A slender dragon, serpentine, lightly-built: sculpted for speed. There is little muscle on him, bar the sinewy cords in the neck, the tail, the hind legs. The snout and head appear not unlike those of ancient, fish-eating dinosaurs; and perhaps that is this dragon's evolutionary path: swift speed, and the snapping up of aquatic prey. Sleek horns spiral back from the head and snout, and spines protrude across its body. The feet, rather than the powerful hooked talons of a bird of prey, are straight, thin and dark-scuted, as are the claws: reminiscent more of crow than eagle.

Yet Blight, though graceful, appears tattered, faded. The skin flaps that should have formed sails between his spines, rudders for flight, are shredded even at hatching, torn here and there, with holes in the wing-leather. Could there be some purpose for this? Perhaps an evolution toward intimidation? It's unclear, but overall his appearance is almost sickly, and if its movements were not so elegant, he might be mistaken for a dying creature.

Blight lacks the armored scales one might expect of a dragon: though there's rough, keratin plating on the back of its neck, and armored plates along its underside, the dragon's hide is mostly soft, smooth hide not unlike the scales of a large constrictor snake. These would be dry, and pleasant to touch. A pair of gills--mutated after a foray into the Black City--nestle behind his finned ears, allowing him to swim without drowning. A similar mutation grants a venom to his bite: one that induces swift paralysis, but does no real damage otherwise.

Blight's gemstone is a glinting, green-yellow butter jade, setting off his brighter, glowing green eyes. It replaces the dragon's sternum/keel, and extends past the skin (around one of the chest-spines, disrupting the fin there) as a small shield shape there.

Blight has no real gender; it has no genitals, his voice is a husky and androgynous rasp, but for the sake of ease or perhaps random choice, he will call himself male.

Blight is an intense creature, one of activity and energy. Exploration is of interest to him, as is learning. Philosophical leanings might draw his attention for a time, as well. Blight is fairly intelligent, and can be relatively well-spoken when he wants to be. The dragon has a perhaps-surprising artistic streak, enjoying all forms of arts: these can soothe his mercurial moods and twitching boredom. This art can extend to the abstract, and to fashion: offer this plague-dragon a knitted scarf and see him know real joy. Earrings and other jewelry are also likely to pique his interest, though he will prefer a "badass" rough style to anything delicate and pretty.

On the flip side of being energetic comes a short attention span, though a bright one. Blight does not like sitting around for nothing: if he feels like lazing about, that's great; but sitting through speeches and the like are not his style. He will quickly grow fidgety, losing attention. Between his lithe agility, intense curiosity, occasional laziness, and wandering thoughts, the dragon could be seen as rather like a brightly-friendly cat, personality-wise.

Blight is quite social, and a natural tendency toward stubbornness and irritability has been largely mitigated by a solid familial upbringing. His outgoing nature and brazen, bold sense of humor might make for good companionship.
